I'm kicking around the idea of maybe taking the carpet out of the X and coating the floor with Line-X. I was wondering if anyone had done this. I think clean up would be alot easier with the Line-X, rather than carpet....Especially in the winter!

I also have been considering doing this.

More for the mud and water in the summer that the snow in the winter.

I also was thinking of trying to have the carpet in sections so that I could have it in during the times that I'm not 4x4ing (help with the noise)

My Xterra is too much of a daily driver to pull the carpet off.

When I'm on long road trips I like to take my shoes off and have bare feet on the carpet while I drive.

Somehow I don't think bedliner would be as cozy. wink

mines not for snow, not for water(usualy) but its for the dirt/sand(sand is hell to get out of carpet) on the weekends and the grahm crackers, juice, french fires etc. from the kids during the week

I have been interested in having the Line-X done to the outside below the body molding? Has anyone done this, and can you put up pictures? Is it worth it?

Leland("accasbel") and Shanna from AZXC have done sonmething similar... they used 3M "clear Bra" on the vast majority of the painted body panels and the used "Herculiner(same as Line X) on all the plastic parts... very cool looking... they have the only truly Black and Yellow X i have ever seen

You could always leave your cloth floor mats on...

I just wash mine, and vaccuum it once in a while.

Line-X is way, way overboard for an SUV like the Xterra.

Ian,

How is it any different from adding ARB bumpers, 31" tires, shocks, lifts, etc...?

I think what Ian means is that the Xterra isn't open topped like a Wrangler or Bronco so you don't have to worry about the weather getting in the Xterra.

There's no real reason to put bedliner in the Xterra because all that gets in is what is tracked in on your feet. Tapping your feet off and a rubber floor mat are better solutions than Line-X.

But a bunch of kids trashing the Xterra is a good reason to do it. wink

I have the herculiner on the bumpers and on the rocker panel just below the doors. It's worked out for me so far. In fact, down in Moab I scraped the corner of the front bumper and it took a good chunk of the Herculiner off. I just got home and re-applied a new coat. Good as new!

Never thought about putting it in the truck. I think it would be beneficial to put it in the rear cargo area though...

This is probably the best picture I have right now, but you're able to see where I put the Herculiner on right below the doors..

BTW: I believe you were the one asking for pics of the neoprene vinyl install on the doors. If not, disregard these pics! laugh

Poorboy: I got the material from a local camping/outdoors store. Fabric stores may have it as well. It's a neoprene vinyl which is a more "rubberery" material. I believe I paid about 20.00 for 3 yards of it (keep in mind the roll of material is about 5 feet wide). Then I just made some patterns for the doors. PM me if you want specifics on the install..

I'm interested in the neoprene insert as well. How'd you go about doing it?

1. Remove door panels. Also remove the arm rests off the front doors.
2. I took measurements of where the new fabric will be and made 1 pattern for the front doors and 1 pattern for the rear doors. Make the patterns about 1/4 inch bigger than the area you have to put the fabric (You'll actually tuck the new fabric in the door seams).
3. The factory fabric is glued on and tucked into the seam of the door. It's a pain to take off (so I just left it on and applied the neoprene vinyl on top of it). Now the neoprene vinyl is not like regular neoprene (the vinyl is a lot thinner than actual neoprene). If you do use actual neoprene, it may be a little difficult to tuck into the seams with the factory fabric on. You may need remove the factory stuff. I used a heavy duty fabric glue. 3M makes a "Super Duty" spray adhesive that works well on fabrics.
4. Once the patterns were cut, I traced them onto the fabric and cut! Note: Again, make your patterns a little bigger than the area you're trying to cover- you can always trim! smile
5. Before tucking in the neoprene, I applied the adhesive to the factory fabric and the neoprene. Once the glue set in a little bit, I started tucking in the edges of the neoprene with a thin paint scraper.
6. Once I got all the edges tucked in and secure, I went a head and put the door back together, i.e. the arm rests on the front doors as well as the plastic ring that goes around the door handles.

That's about it. It's pretty straight forward once you get the doors off. Sorry to go off-topic Guido, maybe the Line-X would look killer on the inside door panels! laugh
