I went off roading and came back with tree sap all over my hood. The following day was 100 degrees and when I tried to get it off with bug and tar remover it did nothing. It is now dried and caked on. What do I do? Am I screwed?

I would personally advice not to use paint thinner, I wouldn't want to mess up my paint with it.

Tree Sap Solution.

Chemicals such as "Bug & Tar" or mineral spirits will somewhat work for tree sap that has not dried yet. However, when it dries it hardens because it is a resin. Once it has dried the only way to get it off is with physical force.

I got the dried up tree sap off of my Xterra with a plastic snowboard wax scraper. Do not use a metal scraper on your vehicle, but use a metal scraper to clean the sap/wax from the plastic scraper. Then, polish and carnuba wax.

Dakine.

Try mineral spirits. It'll take oops paint off from say a light pole but won't damage your X paint. It will take your wax off though.
