I've just adjusted my torsion bars to level off my X. To all of you X owners that have done this, how many turns did you crank on the adjust bolt? I would like to know, because it took me 9 turns on each bolt to level off my X.

It varies a lot from X to X.

It depends on how it was set at the factory.

Mine took about 7 on one side and 4 on the other. Then many more adjustments after that, so I lost count.

I used 4-6 turns on each side to level the truck.

I started with the passenger side being 1/2" lower in height (level ground measured to frame)than the left side and now have both sides even.

this may seem like a stupid question, but do all X's need their torsion bars adjusted? or is it only those that have lift packages?

Normally people adjust torsion bars in order to gain a small amount of ride height in the front end in order to clear 32" tires.

well I just adjusted my T-bars and it took me 11 turns to get 1 inch of lift but I also have an ARB so it needed it .FYI this adjustment took away from the bounce I had in the front end once I put on the ARB. The Rancho rsx helped also I now have 14 1/4 Inches from ground to frame much better than the 12 1/4 I had 2 months ago. 31's, RSX, And torsion bar lift did the trick

11 turns to clear 31s? It sounds like you either started way, way low or you're pretty close to topped out.

You also now have the joy of watching them sag due to the extra weight of the ARB.

I wasnt doing it to clear the 31's the flaps just needed a little trimming for that. I just wanted to get rid of the bounce that came along with the ARB and I got an inch of lift as a result It looks as if there is still 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch before the adjuster arm hits the crossmember? and when they do sag or when I get the winch the nissan motorsports t-bar will go in

No different than having a passenger in the vehicle or not.

The difference between the stock bumper and the ARB is only about 40 lbs, not enough to make a difference in the lifetime of the stock torsion bars.

A full wiper fluid reservoir weighs 15 lbs more than an empty one, but no one adjusts the suspension for that

My X seems to sit slightly slanted to the right (passenger) side. At first I thought it was my mind messin' with me but after reading this thread I think I need to adjust my torsion bar.

Will this help level off my X?

And where is the bolt located that I need to adjust?

Any help would be welcomed and appreciated.

Since this is coming up again, how about someone commenting on how much is too much t-bar lift, and how this affect the rest of the front end?

Thank Jeff!

It was simple to do once I had the link. I just gave it one turn and my X is level!

I found a little bug in the instructions that are posted on maxc's site. The instructions say that the Adjuster Nut is welded to the frame. I found that on my 01 X, they were not, but instead "floated" on a nylon base. When I tried to unlock the Locking Nut, the whole thing spun. You may need to grab the Adjuster Nut with a slim wrench (don't remember what size), while you untighten the Locking Nut above it and while wrenching the Bolt Head itself. Also, I found that my right bar "maxed-out" at 7 turns (wouldn't turn any farther), while using 5 on the left side to balance for 1.25" total lift. This matched up quite well with the SLR 2" shackles.
