It looks like I have to remove the entire front bumper to replace the side marker light (orange) on the side of it.

Has anyone here replaced this light on an 02-04 Xterra? Anyone know an easier way to get to the light without removing the bumper?

I did a search here and couldn't find anything on this subject.

You can get to them by crawling under your X and getting to them from behind the bumper...

To get to it, you probably have to take off the bumper, its a tight fit to get your hand up there without taking off the bumper.

Anyone wanna finish this up? I have read take the bumper off and I always read how easy it is to just go underneath. I have the bulbs..I was going to wait until inspection next yr but I'd like to get this done now..

I just replaced my side marker. Its a pain in the ass, but not enough to take the bumper off.

Behind the light, there just a nut holding it on, get a small wrench back there, and take the light out. The manual has a diagram how to take the bulb out, if you need.

Just turn the wheels, and its easy.

Yea, if I remember correctly the manual was wrong.. I don't know when it's cooler out I'll have to look at it again. Atleast I got the confirmation on not taking anything apart..

Yeah, the sidemarker light sucks to change, I just unscrewed the screws behind it and wedged my hand in there enough to change it...there's enough give to pull it out a bit.

Okay, this is as much a note to myself as to everyone else here.

I just noticed that both of my front side marker lights were burned out again and I had forgotten how to change them since I had not changed them in over 4 years. So there I was scratching my head again trying to figure out how to get to that bulb.

There is no need to take off the bumper. All you need is an 8mm wrench. A single nut is holding the orange light cover on. Turn the wheels and then reach behind the side marker light and take off the single nut. The orange plate then falls right off in your hand and you have instant access to the bulb. Simple 5 minute fix and it's not a pain-in-the-arse at all.
