Whats so wrong with trying to help people? seems that its not nearly as much fun as pointing and laughing.
Yes, I'm guilty of it too at times, but the only time I try and argue is when it is already an argument...
Now that we have all this main stream exposure and people are coming here based on Nissan's suggestion, It might be time to roll things back a bit... to a time when the Xterra community was one that existed to help each other not to bash people who don't do things the way you think they should be done...
Oh, shit... never mind, there never was an Xterra community like that.
Regardless... it might be time to try and mellow it out a bit. Myself included.

I can understand hanging out on XOC because you have friends here, but lets face it... regardless of what that tag under your S/N says, you don't own an Xterra, your not a member. 1. I won't start any off-topic threads
2. I will not pick any fights
3. I will not insult anyone... Even those I feel deserve it.
3b. that includes my favorite phrases: "Pay attention" "reading Comprehension" "ignorant bastard" "Play hide and go fuck yourself" "ditto-head" "Bible-Thumper"
4. I will try and help people with my insight and experience at least as often as I post in off-topic threads
I'm gonna try this for a week.

I'm confused. What's changed? Graham has been correcting people's spelling and Grahamer (I know ) as long as I've been here. It's an endearing quality that he has and for the most part it's done tongue-in-cheek. People like to over react. It's not melicious and if people don't like it they can just ignore it.
This really has evolved into a kindler gentler XOC. A guy comes in with a nice stereo or a nice set of "they're not for me but they look good" wheels and more often than not, appropriate non-threatening and complimentary comments are made. It's not a touchy feely fest and when someone wants kudos for a gaudy over the top mod, people are going to express their opinions. A tip: if you aren't willing to accept critisicm for your ride, don't post pictures of it over the internet.
The ALR and the Clubhouse have always been conduits for controversy and non-x related discussion. As long as those areas don't seem to overflow into the topical catagories people can choose to ignore those areas as well and have nothing but Xterra talk.
People are still going on Xcoursions and posting pictures and other people are commenting on them. Clubs are still getting together and hitting the trails, having dinner, or doing group mods. People are still looking for information on stereo installs, CB, lockers, tires, lifts and front bumpers.
I fail to see how any off-topic discussion or anal retentive spell-checking has made any impact on these things whatsoever. Geesus, if people choose to ignore simple internet etiquette and continue to ask question afgter question about what size tire fits, which brush guard everyone loves and what's the best lift, they SHOULD be directed to the correct resourse as opposed to the same exact question being answered by the same exact people each and every single time.
That is what the search is for. Often times, a topic asked is on the same page of the same forum as the posters. Because often times the same people are quick to jump on the posters who fail to use the helpfull search feature and they communicate their displeasure in a completely anti-social way, the message gets lost in the rudeness.
But ultimately nothing has changed. Why is it that every month or so someone starts thinking that everything is so horrible and everything needs to be changed just so things can all revert back to how they have allways been? And how it has been has been pretty damn oh kay!

Guys, my whole point is that it seems like every thread I open is chock full of wise ass remarks, flames and some down right offensive behavior. Now I know this may shock you coming from a "criminal, uneducated and drunk" Raider fan but it wears thin on my patience. We used to be a pretty tight knit community here, if someone messed something up we all had the manners to correct them properly instead of ripping them a new ass. I'm sorry but that was one of the qualities that I found endearing to this site. Lately it seems as though nobody has any patience for their fellow man much less fellow X owner. It's really nobody in particular but the community as a whole. This used to be a sanctuary for me, where I could come in off the road, away from all the crazies and find an iota of sanity. Those days are gone and I miss them. Without sounding too mushy just have a little respect for the others here. If you want to talk smack, go to a smack board, there are plenty of them.

You jumped all over me, with "if I wanted to f**k with you then I would use these" or something to that effect and proceeded to dig up and display a collection of the most offensive and vulgar gif's you could dig up.
This response to my suggestion that maybe XOC should try to tone it down a bit not only did I find insulting, offensive and a personal attack, but completely irresponsible from someone who has the nerve to consider themselves a moderator.
If this is what you consider the "cool" good old days, then good riddance.

No this isn't solely about the ALR. But other forums as well... People responses to the simplest of questions are getting a bit harsh and the fighting is getting to the point that there is no longer "good natured ribbing" I tried last week to make a joke that i considered "Good natured" and due to the current climate on XOC "recieved poorly" is an understatement of how it went over.

I particiapte in a couple of different boards across the li'l ol' 'net, and truth be told, XOC is the most angst-ridden, contentious board I've seen. But it's (supposed to be) all about shared interests. I think newbies get blasted a bit unfairly. It is sometimes hard to remeber that even though a topic has been covered countless times, not everyone lives on this board. Hey, wildman, chill out. When you've been around as long as I have, you'll
come to understand that twits are a part of life on the net. Look at it
this way: at least they haven't overwhelmed us yet. Most of the jokes in
rec.humor.dead.babes.new are still fresh and interesting. We can hope that
people like newby above will go lurk until they understand the subtleties
of dead baby joke creation, but we should bear with them if they don't.

created.
People like this really burn me. Doesn't he realize that it will just take
a few more newsgroups to bring this whole house of cards down around us?
First, we get rec.humor.dead.chicken (and undoubtedly,
rec.humor.dead.chicken.new). Next, they'll be asking for rec.humor.ethnic.
Then, rec.humor.newfy. By that time, all of the news admins in the world
will have decided to drop us completely. Is that what you want, Cluck? To
bring about the end of Usenet? Humph!
I urge everyone to vote against this proposal. The current system works,
and we shouldn't push at it, lest it break.

7. Nostalgia
Well, they've just created rec.humor.ethnic.newfoundland.bizarre. My, how
things have grown. It seems like such a short time ago that I first joined
this net. At the time, there were only two newsgroups under the humorous
banner: rec.humor and rec.humor.funny. I'm amazed at how things have
split. Nowadays, you have to have twenty newsgroups in your sequencer just
to keep up with the *new* jokes. Ah, for the good old days, when we could
read about it all in one place...

Half the reason I come here is for the contentious debates about religion, abortion, politics, war, etc. Sometimes all in one. I don't think XOC's changed all that much since I joined. Granted, I'm not one of you originals, but I don't think it's all that big a deal.

I haven't been here long, but here are some things that I've learned. 1. Use the search feature before posting any question or you will get flamed. 2. If you've been drinking or have been sleep deprived, check your spelling or you will get flamed by a spelling Nazi. 3. If you own a 4X2 you will get flamed. 4. Every joke, funny picture or video link has already been posted or thought about being posted here. 5.
