My wife and I are discussing a vasectomy. It was her idea actually, but I was glad to hear her bring it up. We share the same feelings about kids and that is, we adore them and spoil the ones we're related to, but we don't want kids of our own.

So why do I feel like I should apologize to people who ask, "Why aren't you guys pregnant yet?"

Maybe its a Minnesota thing (this is the most fertile state I've ever seen). People are actually aghast (and sometimes they're actually angry) that we don't want children. One woman (at church, no less) actually told us we shouldn't waste God's gift of fertility and we should have children and put them up for adoption since there are so many would-be parents out there who want healthy babies.

What the fuck?

We don't want kids. Its our business, its our decision, leave us alone.

(Except for you Nord, you still owe me $50 because we WEREN'T pregnant by whatever time you predicted we'd be!)

Congratulations for helping with the world population problem.
You wont be getting a tax credit for helping out though laugh

If you do decide you want them in the future, just adopt.

Get a vasectomy if you want. I had one, it's not bad. Who cares what others think. Tell people at church that if God wants you and your wife to have children, a vasectomy isn't going to stop him from making it happen. laugh They'll have no choice but to scratch their heads and say, "Yea, I guess you're right." wink

Yea, they're reversible and they're not 100% effective. I've got two kiddos, love them more than life itself, but would consider having a second and third vasectomy just to make sure no "accidents" occur. laugh
My wife tells me since my vasectomy that I have a "License to Thrill." eek

PNUT,

You are right about MN, as soon as I got married, every relative/friend/stranger asked when we were going to have kids. We waited 3yrs. I love my daughter more than life itself, but sometimes I wonder what it would be like without kids. Your life as you know it comes to a screeching halt the minute that kid comes oozing out! laugh

I know you listen to KQ, I would think you would be scared shitless to get the old snip, snip. [Huh?] [Freak]

Its absolutely insane. After our wedding, people started giving us their baby stuff. We got two strollers, 5 car seats, a crib, and some baby clothes. It was nuts. We'd say, "Honestly, we don't need this stuff... we're not planning on having kids" and they would INSIST on shoving the stuff into my truck saying, "trust me, you'll thank me someday." Whatever. We probably banked 100 bucks selling all that shit in a garage sale.

As far as the nut jobs calling KQ (no pun intended), I'm hoping that they represent the same small percentage of the population that doesn't follow their doctor's instructions.... HOPING!

Well, I have one, and love her so much I can't believe it myself. But as for more, why bother? I don't understand why some people think all life is for is to get married, and shit out kids the rest of their life. That is not the purpose of life. I enjoy the time I get in the outdoors, on my bicycle, passed out drunk, and doing other fun "fatherly" things.

I don't see any reason to go on a personal crusade to populate the world with the fruit of my loins. And I stress "fruit".

Good choice PNUT. But if you decide to have them, or adopt them, good for you as well. Best wishes.

What about your wife having her tubes tied? That way if you ever did decide to have kids, all they have to do is undo the knot and inject your baby batter right up in there. I thought I read somewhere that having the tubes untied is easier than trying to reverse a vasectomy- that is if you ever thought you might want kids. If you are 100% sure then grab a bag of frozen peas snip away.

And for those of you that may get the snip snip in the future, not only should you grab the frozen peas, make sure you use a sharp razor to shave first. Razor burn down there's hell. [Geek]

Ahhh yes Vasectomy. What an adventure that is. I have my two sons, and I love them very much but my house is structurely incapable of handling anymore!! laugh

It's your business dude,so do what suits you and screw other peoples opinions. Sounds like your wedding was more of a baby shower. That's not fair of people to put that kind of pressure on you and the wife IMO. If they want more kids, give that stuff to them.

I had a vasectomy about 5 years ago and I've never had any ill effects from it. Just think PNUT, you will be like a Sunkist orange, all juice and no seed baby!!! laugh

And your wife can get off the birth control crap she's putting in her body.

That doesn't work as well, since they don't tie them, they cut them, then staple the ends closed.

Leslie had this done since I am a wimp when it comes to surgery and am the last sperm donor in my family line.

It's reversible, but not an easy procedure.

The worst part of the vasectomy is being spread eagle, naked, with your legs in the air while a man's head is between your legs and tugging on your sack. [Crybaby]
The procedure itself didn't take 20 minutes though, and there was no pain...only "discomfort."
Try not to get an erection though while the doc is down there. [Laughing]

So what's worse? A vasectomy or a colonoscopy?

I've had the latter. A man tugging on your sack or a man shoving a snake up your ass? Jeez, it was ugly.

You will never satisfy others.

If you are single, they will pester you with "when are you gonna get a girlfriend?". Ok, now you have a girlfriend, sooo.... "when are you gonna get married?"... ok... so you get married, Now it becomes, "So, when are you gonna have kids?". The kids come, ... .. "So when are you gonna retire?" Then you retire... What's left...??? "So when you gonna die?" laugh

As far as the whole church thing...

I have friends who belong to a very conservative southern baptist church (in California). Their Pastor believes in "God's work in reproduction". They encourage married couples to not use birth control, since birth control hinders God's work.

Their Pastor has 7 kids. Many of the leaders in the church also have many kids. All the newlyweds get pregnant within the first few months of marriage.

Note: This is an extreme view that a very few number of Christians believe. I am not one of them.

I wouldn't worry about what others think. Like someone else said, family and friends are always going to pester you about soemthing. I'm single with no intention of ever getting married...ever! I have no desire to be married and no desire to have kids. Imagine what it's like for me! I have noticed that I get asked less and less often...I guess they eventually tired of asking the same questions over and over every Christmas!

Christians who suggest you have babies just because you can are stupid! If they think God wants people to have unwanted children they are sick! Besides, there are already more than enough children who need homes; why add more? Plus, just because someone wants to adopt a child doesn't meant hey can and I would hate to think my child could be adopted by a psycho.

Way to go PNUT. I've gone as far as to talk to my doctor and those insurance pricks about this, but they tell me it wouldn't be covered because of my age?

WTF! I'm NEVER gonna want to have children, so why don't you help a brotha out so I won't have to be so paranoid whenever I get a little juice on a chickadoos tummy!

Oh well, back to unleashing my cream tadpoles on the foreheads of the very fortunate. Me rikey Bukake.

Ken, first off props to you and your wife for realizing you don't want children and aren't going to have one for shits and giggles(no pun intended).

I've got 3(two stepdaughters and my 2 week old daughter) and they are a pain in the ass. laugh But they're a bundle of fun and I love 'em to death. For me, it was the right choice. Now the wife, on the other hand........ [LOL]

Do what you two think is right. I have looked into it somewhat, as we've been discussing having one more in the future(4 or 5 years) then ending it permanantly. My wife seems to be extremely fertile(3 kids in 3 1/2 years) so we don't know what to do yet. But I'm willing to take the leap when we get there.

Should be no sweat for me. When you've seen your internal organs displayed right in front of you via camera, not much else can turn your stomach. My mother in law damn near lost her cookies during my wife's C-section, I barely flinched.

Why not just put your wife on the depo shot?

It is damn near 99% effective, and if you want to have kids just have her stop taking it. Just one shot every 6 mos. It decreases menstrual cramps and blood loss--after 1 year of use 50% of women will no longer even get their period.

Because my wife is a human being with thoughts and feelings, and she prefers not to. Dude, its not like I can "put my dog on a diet" here... its my WIFE we're talking about. "Honey, I'm puttin you on a depo shot, so git your ass in the truck!"

We want 100% Not 98... not 99... not with hormone shots with side effects (especially with side effects like weight gain), ONE HUNDRED PERCENT.

I'm not "afraid" of the procedure (still waiting to hear if I'm covered by insurance), and I certainly don't give a rip what other people think, I just think its hilarious that people are nervous about asking you SOME things (like "what did you pay for that truck?" or "what kind of deal did you get on the lot for your house?") but they're TOTALLY in your face when it comes to YOUR OBLIGATION to make babies.

Personally, I think the "hurry up and get married" or "hurry up and have kids" mentality is perpetuated by those who want you to join their misery. They'll have someone to "feel their pain" over a beer (if they ever have the time).

This is the story of my life. I will be 27 in two weeks, have a fantastic career, own my own condo, have a freelancing business on the side, and yet, my mother and father think my life is empty because I am not married.

Being a Palestinian American doesn't help either. The typical Palestinian woman gets married and has a plethora of children. This is the so-called "perfect" way to live.

It sucks trying to fight that standard, but I won't ever give up. When it happens, it happens. I am not going to do anything just to please everyone else.

You shouldn't either.

PNUT, don't have kids. Did you ever read the story I posted called "The Childless Couple"? I keep a copy of it in my wallet. You should too!

Vasectomy should be covered by insurance because its cheap and quick and potentially saves thousands in labor/delivery costs.

I must be unlucky because my vasectomy hurt like hell. The first needle makes be cringe today, but the three months of dull ache was far worse. It did finally stop hurting much to my relief.

Mine was 100% covered by insurance. As a matter of fact, I thought they (my insurance) were going to send me a thank you letter for having it done, rather than go through the exenses of birth. Seems like most insurance companies will pay for it. Seriously, I didn't have to pay a penny.
Man, three months of dull ache? Three months?!?! Geez, I felt like I had blue balls for about two weeks, but that was it. Yea, the first needle stung a little, you know, that initial "prick" (hee hee, pun intended laugh ). After that, what hurt most was my pride from having a dude between my legs fingering me. I mean, it was nice for a while, but it got old. eek

Just kidding laugh

I see no problem with it. If you two don't want kids, then don't have kids. Absolutely nothing to worry about. Just cause your a man, and she's a woman, don't feel the need to procreate.

If God wants you two to be parents, your little operation isn't going to matter.

I have two kids and want more. My wife asked me to get a vasectomy and I said no. She had her tubes tied. She doesn't want anymore and I do. It's her body, if she wants to make it incapable of reproducing, that's her business. I however will be capable of suirting wigglers until I die. These genes are too good to keep all to myself. I think it is each individual's right to choose for their self. My aunt bugged my uncle to get a vasectomy for 3 years. He finaly agreed and she gave him his divorce papers when he got back from the doctor's office. That's another reason I wouldn't get one. But to each his or her own.

PNUTMNM,

Welcome to my world. Nothing pisses me off more than people telling my wife and I to have kids. I absolutely LOVE kids and we spoil our nieces and nephews rotten.

BUT..........our life style does not really need our own children in it so I took the plunge years ago to insure we have no accidents. Stand tough and do what makes the 2 of you happy.

There is nothing wrong with going the way you are. Period.

Okie dokie. Not sure how I got dragged into this.
A couple of bullet points;
*Ken, I owe you $50 and I will repay you. (beer, mostly)
*God HAS spoken, in that no one on this board wants you to reproduce. Just imagine the Hell!
A related anecdote...
Ken was at my house one time and we were sitting around having beers. The wife comes home with the kids, one runs past Ken screaming and Ken is gone 3 minutes later. No lie.
Some people want kids, some people don't. Some people have no choice.
On a related note, a gal I work with had her husband go in for the "snip snip". Long story short, he had internal bleeding and bruising. I've seen pictures (for the lawsuit), his coin purse was BIGGER than a grape fruit.
I'll stick with wackin' and abstinense, thank you very much.

Dude, I'm giving you SHIT about the "fitty," I knew it wasn't a fair bet when we made it. Yea, it was a little LOUD at your house that day. My wife adores Tracy though, we do need to get together. Don't know how long we'd stick around if we met at Chuckie Cheese, though.... [Wave]

PNUT.... Don't be bothered by idiots who say shit like that. If they are relatives, when you catch them alone just say it bothers you and they will stop.

Did you ever notice it is only the fat ass baby making machines that say shit like this? Comments like this always come from women who you would never stick your dick into even if you were paid to do so. Their idiot husbands always smile and nod in agreement. (These husbands deserve a beating for becoming feminized).

You never hear comments like this from your really hot female relatives and friends. Also you never hear these comments from the non-feminized male relatives and friends. Only the fat ignorant idiots.

Let it roll off your back .... and you just have to realize where it's coming from.

Good luck to you and your wife....

If someone asks you when you're having kids.. just say "I will forgive you for asking if you will forgive me for not telling".

I prefer not to swim up river... the world wouldn't be able to handle another Mosi! laugh

Madman, although you may not have stated it as gracefully as some might have appreciated, I would have to agree with your opinions on this particular issue. I can't figure out what happens to men after their wives get fat, angry, and ultimately take over the house. Its scary.

Well, my wife has 3 children. She's angry, she's taken over the house, but hey, at least she's still hot! laugh [Freak]
