All -

There was some interest expressed about doing a joint SWXC/HXOC/(insert anyone else here) run in June/July-ish.

Here is my post from the previous thread...

All,

Here is how far each place is from my house in Frisco (far north DFW), TX (mainly for reference for the SWXC-ers):

Frisco to Disney, OK 278 miles (straight up 75 from my house)
Frisco to Broken Bow, OK 185 miles (up 75 then hang a right from my house)
Frisco to Hot Springs, AR 296 miles

As far as what the SWXC has planned, we are currently open in June and July. The only thing going on in June is the Plant Tour in Smyrna, so we may want to consider plannning around that to maximize participation in this possible joint event. Also, the 4th of July falls on a Sunday this year, so that is gonna be a three day weekend for most of us....

So, we need to pick a place, and then pick a date. FWIW - I will go to any three, so there is my 'official' vote.

Thoughts?

Let's get this rolling so we can make plans!

I went camping up near Broken Bow during Spring Break, but didn't do any offroading. Looked like there might be some cool places to hit.

I think June might be a great time to make a trip, somewhere.

I went a couple years ago with hattrick and rrc from SWXC. We couldn't find much beyond fire roads. I've heard we just weren't in the right spot. I'd suggest before heading down either have someone going that knows where the more difficult trails are to be found or get GPS coordinates for them. We did have a pretty awesome campsite that had a pretty big raccoon wandering around at night.

Carlton, you lurking??? I think he has the coordinates. If I can get to the first road into the park I think I could find a lot of the stuff we did and maybe even find the same stuff. If we could break Jason loose I bet between us we could duplicate our last trip!!!

Not sure where Dan and Richard went their last trip???

As I stated in the first thread, I'm good with any of the locations as long as it's not during the HXOC events on June 18-20 & July 16-18.

So we are looking at the following weekends:

June 26-27
July 10-11

Any one of these sound interesting? Also, what location? I am thinking Broken Bow...

June would work for me. Give me some time to save up for GOX. (Plus, I like to do one trip a month if possible and I don't have one scheduled for June.)

I am open all June. After July 12th would be little hard, but not impossible. I suggest that the two presidents set up the date and place, so the rest of us could arrange plans accordingly.

Ok, based on the majority of responses let’s gun for June 26-27.

I was hoping to wait for a date to be set for the Plant Tour as we do not want to conflict with it. Last update two days ago said the date may get pushed back so the attendees can see the new ‘05s. If the tour end up getting set for this weekend, and people would rather go on it, we can always reschedule this run.

So, June 26-27 it is.

Now, where are we going?

I did alot of searching on mapquest to see what the distances are for Dallas, Austin, Houston members and HXOC members to see what would be more "centralized".

Looks like Broken Bow is the best choice. So I say Broken Bow too. Personnally I don't know yet if I can attend this xcursion since our club is doing a canoe trip the week before in June. My wife may think I'm nutz doing two trips both weekends. wink I'll have to do something for some brownie-points laugh

What about The State of Mind Ranch? We've been talking about it on the TNT board for awhile.

Clicky Here

It's North of Broken Bow, but not that much further.

Looks interesting, Hot Springs would be real close to this ranch too.

Where ever we go, its still a good road trip for everyone!

There is also Clayton, OK near there as well. My club did it last fall, but I missed it because of a business trip. From what I hear it's everything from scenic runs through the country-side to trails you only try in a rock buggy.

Looking at the maps, Clayton, Broken Bow and Smithville are all within 60-90 minutes of each other. It could be we try one place and if we don't like it go somewhere else.

Ok, let's just stew on this so-to-speak until the day approaches. I *think* though that most of the SWXC-ers like the idea of Broken Bow...

I have the Broken Bow coordinates still in my GPS- and more conveniently, they are still also on our Yahoo! Group Page. Look under files, and there is a .txt file listing the coordinates in Degrees & Minutes.

Here's a pic of the tracks I took when Daniel and Richard met up with HXOC in 2002. The waypoints Bow01-Bow09 are the set Walt pointed out to me on the SWXC yahoo group. It sure looks like the same trails I've done before. You could run these in a lowered Civic.

Hey Dan can you still get Rush tickets? That would be better than this.

I tend to agree with Steve... I think if most attending are for an off road trip than we go somewhere with good trails. Easy and technical to 3+ diamonds. Brokenbow is fun but we usually go there for camping and because we have a few 4X2's with us.

If these dates are not good than let's plan a good one. Heck we always have excuses or conflicts. I'd like to see a good turnout and we all have fun.

OK you OK guys let's get some suggestions!!!!

Well....the other options were Disney & Hot Springs. If we keep it the same week that we had planned for Broken Bow then I would opt for Disney. We might get more HXOC turnout if we go there also.

I'd recommend trying Clayton, OK. It's not much of a difference in distance or time from Dallas or Kansas City.

Gonna have to postpone (ie cancel for this weekend) the joint run; sorry. Seems only 2 of us (total from both clubs) can make it. Let's hold off until a time when more can come.
