They should fit. TJ is running roughly the same size. Some trimming may be req'd. If you're already running 285s, it would probably make more sense to stick with what you have.

If you need new tires, Goodyears or Intercos will be much tougher than BFG or Pro-Comp. I've seen to many of the latter get sliced.

I would have to think they'd rub.
I'm running the 285/70/17's and the only thing I touch is the brake line shield on the passenger side frame rail at full turn.

Well, no, I'm running 305/70/16's, not 17's...so mine are exactly 33" diameter...he'd be running 34" on the 70's with the extra inch.

The 65's would probably be the right diameter though...with a 65 aspect ratio, the tread on the 305 would be wiider than the tread on the 70's I believe.

He'd still have 8" of sidewall, not too shabby.

At any rate...33x12.5's fit with a 3"/2" combo...and 34's might make it as far a stuffage...but, not on turning radius...the tire would swing in a large enough arc to need either more aggressive turnstop bolt adj., or a little metal clipped from the back edge of the front wheel wells, right where the mud flaps used to mount to.

For 33's, I only had to trim plastic in that spot...the metal cleared.

I installed 35x12.5x15 Pro-Comp Xterrians on stock rims...just have the 2 bl/3 sl...some trimming on back of front fender to steer. They fit great!
