I just tried installing 285 50R20's on my 04 and the outer edges of the tires rub when turning. Already removed lower mud flap and grinded some of the fender well out. any suggestions?

You probably got 20" rims with too little back spacing.

You needed about 5.5" of backspacing to avoid rubbing.

Most of the time, the rub is typically ON the ledge that the mud flaps used to be screwed to...cut out about an inch of plastic along maybe 8" of the ledge's innermost end, towards the outer most edge, and that's typically your bogey...unless you neede more back spacing...in which case you need different rims, or a sawzall, etc.

laugh

I'm running 305's, w/o rubbing...but I have more backspacing.

You could also adjust your turn stop bolts out, until the full lock position doesn't rub, as another fix if it only rubs on turns.

I removed the mud flaps, used a die grinder on the fender well along with a ball peen hammer and cut the hanging flange on the underside of the front bumper. Thanks for the suggestion. I adjusted the turn bolt to a satisfactory position.

All that work to fit about a 31" tire.

sigh.

I took the car out tonight on the parkway and bottomed out somewhat and when I got home I noticed that bottoming out shifted the the bumper foreward about 1 inch.

i had very little rubbing with 18x8 +25mm and 285/60r18s. little trim on the bumper. and minor trimming on the flap.

definately an offset issue.
