im a little confused and im sure someoen can clear this up, there seems to be a huge difference in price for the same tire, same size, only different letters after the size, what are the differences?

265/75RR16 E at $180
265/75SR16 C at $164
265/75SR16 at $135

i think i will evenutally get revos in this size since i want a nice A/t tire but do 95% of driving on road, and i wont need any trimming.

the letters are for the weight rating/number of plys the tire is constructed of.

those are 3 very different tires and each will ride differently from the other.

But Revos suck. buy some BFG's

thanks adam...but why the hate for revos? i see you sig also. Ive read alot and it seems people that have them love them, and people only choose BFG over them if they want a more off-road oriented tire.

Revos are a great street tire, they suck off road. I have only come to this realization after getting a set of BFG M/Ts. I swap them out for the winter as the M/Ts suck in the snow, the revos really shine in snow and ice.

Although I dont do a lot of offroading anymore. I like my revos and I got a heck of a deal Firestone was offering a buy 3 get the 4th free. I ended up paying like $550 for a set of four. Prior to the revos I had the GY Wrangler MTR's and those things kicked ass off road, but wore out a little quick.

Like you most of my driving these days in on the street as usually the only time I am going off road is to get to the out of the way fishing and camping spots.

that last one is a 'P' tire vs the others which are LT (for light truck..)..

if it were me, i'd choose the 'C' load rating, but the last tire will give you the softest ride. the C load rating has a deeper tread ( and probably will last alittle longer

You can't take what most tire manufacturers/sellers say about tire/vehicle recommendations at face value...

for example..BFG has stated that the BFG AT(specifically load rating D) should never go on a vehicle as light as an Xterra... [Freak]

If you aren'r hauling a big trailer or filling up the X to its maximum regularly you should be fine with the cheapest ones.

anyone else agree on getting the cheapest ones? are the treads going to be not as deep?

The reasons for the $ difference are spelled out in th spec chart tirerack supplies for the tire...

If you read across the chart...and add the prices from the price chart, the differences are as follows:

112/109S C:

2,470 lb capacity, 15/32" tread depth, 8.1" tread width, and 31.8" diameter and $ 164

114S SL:

2,601 lb, 13/32', 7.8" and 31.9" and $ 135

123/120R E:

3,415 lb, 16/32", 8.1" and 31.8" and $ 180

13/32" is kind of shallow...for example, the AT ko in that size ranges from more like 15-17/32" tread depth.

The load range might be tough on the E, but it would be stiff...so on road ride would be harsher, and terrain conformance a bit stiff, but the toughness improved....but its a $180 tire...and you're off roading is obviously a lower priority than your on roading, hence the REVO's to start with...

That means that all of the above would work, but that the 112/109S C is probably the one, of the three you asked about, that would work best.

thanks tj that answers all my questions about that. With all my reserch on tires sizes ive gotten very confused. stock the xterra has 265/70r16 and those are 31" tires as i read on the sticky correct? I said before about getting 265/75r16 and those are 32" as i just read and no one caught that i said i wontt need to do any trimming with those. That is incorrect right? with 265/75r16 i will need trimming?

i am baseing that off of this in the sticky:
"32" tire fits any Xterra with major trimming and a lift is recommended."
but then i did a search and people say 265/75 fit with no problem..very confused

yeah, funny about that.

laugh

No problem means just plastic trim to a lot of people.

Also - different years can clear different sizes without plastic trim alone..the metal trim is the same for 00-04...and the 05+'s are much larger welled for tall, but narrower for fatness.

oo-01's need to trim ploy for over 31's...02-04's can clear 31's pretty well all the time, and sometimes 32's.

265/70/16 is more like a 31-ish tire, 265/70/15 is more like a 30", etc.

265/75/16's are like 32's, but skinnier, 285/7516's are like skinny 33's, etc.

I'm running 305/70/16's for example, a bit taller and wider treaded than a 33x12.5/15 in the same tire...on my '01.

laugh

I CAN tell you that a bunch of people I wheel with have run 32x11.5's w/o a BL or SL..but they removed essentially ALL the front well liner plastic.

Sigh.

Get 275/70/16's.

Taller and wider treaded than a 31", but not as tall or wide as a 32"...although almost as wide as the 32" tire.

The D range in that size would work better, and handle well on road.

A good compromise, and an easy fit.

I had the cheap Revo's in 265/75/16 on both a 2002 and a 2004. No trimming whatsoever, no lift.
Why would some rub but not mine?

Some fit, some rubbed, and some compress more often/harder than others...I wheeled with people who swore they didn't rub...and they rubbed like crazy on the trails..it just hadn't come up yet where they'd wheeled to that point.

Also - the '02's have less plastic in the way than the pre-'01's...which makes it even more borderline.

So I'd say the answer is that if you have 265/75/16's (Not 265/70/16's, 265/75/15's, etc...) and they do not rub...you could be lucky, or haven't wheeled it that hard yet to get a tire stuffed in there all the way, etc.

Like I said before, we're just talking about a sliver of wheel well plastic most of the time, on road...until you go off road...then the 32" hits more stuff.
