I am in the process of tuning my Cobra 75 but I am new to this CB and not sure what the bandwidth SRW should be.
The bottom vom reads from 3 to 5 when I am receiving. I am assuming that higher is better, what is a average number indicator "Sig" one should get for a good
tune.

If I am understanding you correctly, higher the number is not better. You want a lower number on your SWR meter. For instance before tuning my antenna, I had an SWR reading of 2.0. This is a decent reading but not great. I then extended the antenna by a few turns and was able to drop the SWR reading to 1.5 which is even better. When finally done I have an SWR of 1.0 on channal 20.

There are two different ways you can tune your CB. #1. You can tune it to a specific channel ie. 19. Or #2. You can tune it to channel 20 and have good tuning throughout all 40 channels.

Sorry I was not very clear, the lower SWR is the best.

On the 75 what numbers are you getting on the bottom readout that's the gage that has the +30 on it

Ok, I get it. I just paged through the operating instruction manual. Of course, not a damn thing mentioned about that meter. Mine hangs out around 5-9 on the +30 SIG meter of 2-3 on the PWR meter. I hope this helps. I never really worried about it. I can receive signals and I am heard when I transmit. That is what matters to me.

I got an SWR of 1.2 on my Cobra set up using a meter I got at Radio Shack for 20 bucks.

DeFibVT, watch out for you SWR readings tho, if they are too high, (over 3 I think), you can damage the radio.

Check out this site for more help.

Like my post says my SWR is 1.0. I also got my meter at Radio Shack.

you gotta let me in on your secret...a SWR of 1.0 is supposedly only possible under laboratory conditions. I grabbed myself the same radio shack meter...got suckered into tuning all my friends antennas too. Ive got 1.1 on 33, which is where we run when around town, and a 1.5 on channel 1. Depending on your radio anything above 2 or 3 will burn up the final on your radio...cobras usually say 3, unidens 2, but all you really need to know is that it should be under 2.
