Ok... granted it's for the PSOne... But still... I hooked it up to my PS2 and Dreamcast
a few nights ago to see quality of the picture and I must say that for $50, it's WELL
worth it... I found the deal at the forum section in Anandtech.com .
I went to a local store here in City of Industry, CA and they had 'bout 50 or so on the shelf.
The manufacturer is GameVue... Here's the link from Fry\'s Electronics

I've got a great X mod idea for this... I'll post pics to show you what I've done... Description
and all... So if you have a local B&M Frys close to you, I'd pick one up... Definately worth $50 even
if you don't install it on your X...

Pics will be up later today... PEACE!!!

I was thinking in the lines of a gooseneck platform... You'll see what I mean
when I post pics up...

Aight... Here's the pictures for the cheap LCD mod I did...

PART ONE
We'll start from the cargo area and work our way up to the front of the X...
Here's where my PS2 resides... On top of the Sgt. Lobo Storage Mod...
The power for the PS2 is coming from an AC-DC converter that's connected
to the rear power outlet...

Here's the Audio/Video (AV) connection from the PS2 to the 12' AV cable that
will be connected to the 5.6" LCD screen... The cable actually goes underneath
the rear seat... Just fold down the rear seat half way to get the cable through...

Here's the AV cable coming out of the rear seat (Pic 1)... I removed the rear seat cushion
so the wire can be routed to the plastic grommet... This is also good 'cause it will hide
the cable when you re-attach the seat cushion... Now the cable will be directed
through the plastic grommet til it reaches the backside of the driver's seat (Pic 2)...

The AV cable goes underneath the driver's seat and then underneath the center console.
Sorry, no picture of that... I'll take one and update this description...

PART TWO
Okay... Now the gooseneck part of the install... My GF had an old gooseneck/CD Player
unit she used awhile back... Well I took that and used it as the holder and platform for
holding the LCD screen...

Here's a picture of the gooseneck bolted to the passenger side seat... As you can see,
the AV cable comes out from the center console and underneath the seat... I just used
twist ties to hold the cable in place with the gooseneck...

Here's the rear view of what the support platform looks like... I continued to use twist
ties to hold the AV cables in place... As you can see, the AV cables are now connected
to the LCD screen...

Here's the front profile view of the LCD-AV Cables-Platform... I used HEAVY DUTY velcro
to hold the LCD on the platform...

Lastly, here's a full frontal picture with the LCD running a DVD movie... This picture
DOES NOT give the LCD justice... It looks MUCH BETTER in person... As you can see,
the power for the LCD is connected to either the cigarette lighter or power outlet...
I used the first option just for show...

That's it... Total cost... LCD, cables, gooseneck... Under $100... Totally worth the
money if you're looking for an alternative multimedia setup... As for security...
Just unplug the AV cables and remove the LCD/Platform from the gooseneck...
That's it... Less then 10sec. to remove... Whaaa-Laaaa...

If you've got questions, concerns, and of course, comments, please leave a post
or email me... Aight.. Lates!

Where does the sound go through? Your speakers or the speakers on the screen?

Yeah... there are built in stereo speakers... Here's a closeup...

You can buy one of those FM wireless modulator thingies so it can
be heard through your X's stereo... Saw them at Fry's too... In the
automotive department... $20 or so... The LCD also has headphone
jacks on the left side of the casing (not shown on pic)... Hope this helps!

Dude, I'm dying to get one of those CD player goosenecks. Nobody carries them anymore. The ones that are sold now are very wimpy. This is the only one I can find that even has half a chance of holding up my 2lb plus LCD. If anybody finds some of these old CD player goosenecks, let me know.

Xterrian & Gmann... The Gooseneck that I'm using was bought a few years ago... When
I was at Fry's pickup up a few things this afternoon, I saw the same exact CD player
gooseneck I bought back then... Same style and everything... $20... Same price I
purchased it... Although the "neck" part looks like it's only 12" long compared to
16" on mine... I could be wrong, though... Anyways... Fry's Electronics has them at
their Automotive Dept... I've also seen these at Wal-Mart (If you don't have a Fry's
near you)... Same Dept...

Too bad none of you guys live close by... I'd drive to you so you can see it in person
(if you two were local)... Sorry... Good luck fellas... Lates!

When I was stateside last summer.. I saw them at Radio Shack (in New Jersey), but I haven't seen them at all their stores. Think it was with their cell phone stuff. U.S. Radio shack seems to carry twice as much as ours.. so I always pop in.

I just went to the Fry's nearby and found the LCD screen. Looks pretty good. There's a Sony one for 129.99, but it doesn't look like it has the AV plugs.

I noticed, that you have a cigarrete plug adapter for the screen, I couldn't find one at Fry's. I searched all around for the gooseneck, but they didn't have it either. I'll prolly try another Fry's this weekend. Thanks for the ideas.

I just called the phone number for Outpost.com and the screens are currently on backorder. And the salesman told me that there are 400 orders that need to be filled before my order. So I dont think I'll wait the month or two when they "might" get enough of them in stock. He said that it might be 1-2 months on backorder.. DOH!!
I guess I'll be calling Funcoland (used game store here in NY) to see if they have any used PS1 or PS2 screens for sale.
Thanx for the killer idea AirButchie.
Nice install.

Airbutchie-

Thanks for the awesome mod idea! I just went to Fry's Electronics and they have tons of these screens- GameVue Screen only for the PSONE. In addition they have the goosenecks in the Automotive department for CD Players. You can go to www.frys.com I believe and order anything you need or have your local store get it from another location.

Hey Everyone...

Sweet deal ya'll... I'm glad some of you are doing this mod... It looks like a few
of you have caught on... Hey 01SalsaXterra, if your Funcoland doesn't have one
or is a bit pricey, let me know and I'll go and pick one up for you here at my
local Fry's and send it to ya (pending if they have more on the shelf)...

A few of you asked about the power plug that's used for the LCD screen... Well
I bought it at Electronics Boutique... They're usually located at malls and such...
They do have a website... Here's the direct link to it:

PS One Car Adapter (for LCD Screen)

Here's something interesting... I got mine for $9, but online it's running $14.99... confused
Go figure... Anyways... Shoot me an email or IM (if I'm online) if you have further questions,
comments, and or concerns... PEACE OUT!!!

Only a $100, but in your expenses, you forgot the $300 (now $199) PS2... laugh

Woops... Oh yeah.. Forgot about that one...

You can virtually hookup anything to the LCD... Dreamcast,
Gamecube, N64, VCR, etc... etc... As long as it has an A/V
connection to it...

UPDATE: I went back to Fry's here in City of Industry, CA. and
they had 7 left in stock (last week they had 30+ or so)... I guess
people have been catching on that this is worth the $50...
Again... Highly recommended 5.6" LCD for the price...
