I've checked Search with limited resuls ...

The stock alarm system is poor at best ...

What 'brand name' alarm systems are people using and what do they cost ??

What kind of features should I look for in a good alarm system ?

does the '01 have a separate horn for the alarm or just the stock, anemic driving horn ?

And can anyone share an experience where their alarm system actually saved their X from disappearing ??

I'm with you, I was never one for factory alarms, they suck. The stupid horn and no shock protection is good for nothing. In the last thre cars i've been moveing my alarm system from car to car. I have a Viper 500 with all the bells and wistles. I'm going to do the same thing for my X. It is for that reason I have not turned in my Leased car yet (even though I baought my X already) so I can transfer my alarm system to the X this weekend. I hate not having the option of automatic arm (if you do not arm the alarm it will do it itself in about a minute) since sometimes I forget to arm the factory one.

Please try not to double post. Your post in "General" pertaining to alarms should have been deleted when you posted in here. Please keep that in mind in the future.

THANKS!

I have tried two or three different name brands but the best I have found is Ungo, they are made by the Clarion Corp. You can get the top of the line for about $300 installed (it does everything you can imagine). They also have high quality lower priced units.

Try Cliford they are the best, NYC proof. I have the G4 Intelliguard 8000. Very expensive but it is the best. (DEI the maker of viper alarm has taken over Clifford just a little info.) If you live in a slightly high crime area make sure you get the pager system (if you park on the street or in your drive way) I caught two kids in my car after they broke into it can got my stuff back. I came close to spkiking there hands and feet to the ground and take there cloth, and leave them out there to rot.
