Sorry if this has been disscused before but I am going on a long trip to Charllote NC this weekend and I would really like to get something in my X before going. Can anyone tell me if this is a good model CB. Please follow the link. Thanks very much for any help in advance. P.S I am going to be installing this myself. I know you have to tune the antanne to the cb. Is this very hard to do? Do I need and SRW meter?

I could not say how good or bad this CB is. Considering the tolerance in items like this, one may 'talk' real well, the next may not. A good tech can go inside and peak a radio to improve performance.
To tune an antenna a SWR meter is needed. Ask around, someone you know may have one burried in their garage. Tuning the antenna is not hard to do. Like most things, just takes a bit of patience. Adjust length by about 1/8 in. or less and re-test. Remember to close the door and stay away from structures that could interfear with the signal. Basic rule - shorten for hi channels, longer for low channels.
FWIW I have a TRC-442 waiting for me to do the install.

For the most part, CBs are all about the same. Some have more features than others. A good antenna is the most important thing. And it must be well tuned.

I don't know about the radshack cbs. I just bought and installed a cobra 75, and I love it. I will never use anything else.

This might be a dumb question, and I think the answer is yes, but do CBs work with FRS units (channel 1-14) or are they on different frequencies? Never tried using a CB and a FRS unit at the same time to see if they can communicate.

Nope. CB is AM, FRS is FM, and that's just the beginning...
