Just wondered how many people were also staying at the KOA- they didn't seem to know about GOX, but I saw a few people mention they were staying there. She asked if I was with the Jeep Jamboree even after I told her it was for Xterra's!

Allright! Hopefully there will be a few others. There's nothing listed "social wise" for Friday night- maybe we can have our own KOA party!

GOX stuff... http://www.xterraownersclub.com/gox2/index.html

Click Itinerary for the current list of times.

This will be updated a bit more by next week, and I'll be sending out much more info to those on the GOX list (and here).

I will be camping there with at least 3 other members of SCCX. The campground is about 4 miles north of the town; web site is http://www.koa.com/ but your better off just calling 1-800-562-8026 for a more immediate response.

Several of us shared sites last year and you can generally fit three tents/trucks on many of the sites. I really enjoyed camping there last year the campgrounds are nice and full featured…showers, water, etc . Can't beat the price especially if you share as site, which I recommend.

Not much.
"GOX-proper" is Monday through Friday. The weekends were tacked on for travel days, or for people arriving early or leaving early.

That 8PM for Stony Pass is a typo. That's a day run with PNWX (I've fixed it).

RMXC is running a pre-GOX event, but it is full at this time. Space may open up since some people are not attending. I'll have more info this week.

Shanna & I (along with Rocky & Natasha) are staying at the KOA in one of the Kamping Kabins. I don't know where the other AzXC's are staying.

Rocky and Natasha are Ridgebacks and will make it difficult, if not impossible to make any of the events on the social calendar. We're all for a KOA party.

This is one of the reasons I recommend not bringing pets. They do interefere with social things. If you are heading to Moab after GOX, be aware that Canyonlands and Arches do not allow pets of any kind, even in vehicles.

Dogs are fun to take wheeling, but for something with so much going as GOX, we're leaving our Rudy behind for a week, and I recommend others think hard about it.

Dogs need to be leashed when outside vehicles, or on verbal commands. Dogs love to chase marmots and pikas, and they are all over the place. The altitude can be exhausting to dogs not acclimated, and the sharp rocks can do a lot of damage to their pads.

Our dogs have interfered with many a social gathering. It's a choice we made when deciding to accept the responsibility of pet ownership. We believe they add more to our lives than what we lose.

There are many areas that don't allow dogs, for multitudes of reasons. Thank's for letting us know these too are on that list.

Most of the time Like our friends that bring children, there are time when we wished we would have left them somewhere else.

Which is why many areas ban them. They can be detrimental to wildlife and in certain areas attract wild cats which eat the dogs for dinner.

When 4-wheel'n we aim to be responsible and tread lightly. We assume the same responsibility with our pets. Thanks for the advice. I don't mind being reminded of my responsibility and warned of the dangers.

Just to add to Accasbel's comments about Rocky and Natasha. Our dogs are more like kids to us than many dog owners we've met. In the 2+ years that we've had our dogs, we have never taken a vacation without them (including a cross-country trip from AZ to IN - it wasn't Eukanuba, it was Iam's!!) We go 4-wheeling several times a month and have only left them behind one time when we had passengers in the truck and couldn't fit the dogs too. We sacrafice a lot of socializing for them and we camp instead of hotel for them to be with us - but it is SO worth it!

Finally, the most compelling reason that our dogs HAVE to come to GOX:
the ONLY reason I got rid of my two-seater and bought the X was because of the dogs!! The truck is theirs almost as much as it is mine.

My vacation not only includes GOX, but also a trip to see the family in PA for a few days, so I'm bringing Boscoe (14 mo. black lab) with me. I didn't want to impose upon the people I'm sharing the condo with, so I've found a great place to board him while I'm in CO. It's called Wash-N-WatchDogs and it's in Redvale. They mostly board Labs and Goldens and they were highly recommended by the 3 vets I called. This place is different in that the dogs are not caged....they have acres of fenced property to run in, the owners are both trainers and their rates are better than anywhere here in Boston. I spent a good hour on the phone with them and they've gladly answered any questions I have had. I know there's probably somewhere closer to Ouray to keep him, but the benefits of this place make up for the distance. Besides, it's much better than leaving him in Boston. If anyone else needs somewhere for their dog, check them out at www.washnwatchdogs.com

Just got an email from Ouray KOA. There is a limit of one vehicle per campsite. This may change some of your plans...

I spoke with them yesterday and she told me it was 2 per campsite for $21. She brought up the 2 people, I didn't even ask her.
People last year put 3 on a site.
