What's everyone doing about lodging? Joni (my GF) and I are looking at getting a condo for the week. Still debating on whether or not to share with others. If we shared w/ another couple, or just two other people, we could get a house for the week and still come out cheaper. We're probably not going to camp, as then we will have to bring a lot more stuff. (Pre-GOX trip excluded, we will be camping, but lightly).

Let me know if you decide to share one. I still haven't made any lodging arrangements.

Hehe, no. I'm doing the pre-trip with RMXC, so may have a weird schedule on arriving in Ouray. Also, Joni doesn't want to share a condo with a ton of people, and for some reason, I have this feeling that your condo won't be the quietest place (I have visions of "Ice, Ice, Baby" at 4am...) We're looking at a cabin outside of town, as it'll be quieter.

You all big bunch of planners i am just gonna show up with a credit card and a sleeping bag and play it by ear. If I end up sleeping in the X a few nights no big deal and If I need a shower and a bed head for motel whatever. But heck I guess being in college i am used to weird road trips with no place to stay at my destination.

You may get lucky seeing as it's sort of after Labor Day, but Ouray has a habit of having no where to stay if you book late.

Planning ahead is actually a very good idea for GOX.

BTW, the Box Canyon has the best hot tubs in town. No bubbles, but pure spring water direct from the source.

The higher up the rock you climb, the hotter the tubs are.

Cool.

Box Canyon looks good to me.

I am a frequent traveler and am quite religious about making reservations. It's much easier to cancel at the last minute than to find lodging then.

I probably won't make the whole trip due to my wife's employment (jobs - they always get in the way of the fun things I like to do ) so I need to figure if I want to do the first weekend/early week or late week/second weekend.

Or maybe I'll do the whole enchilada and just let her drive up and meet me mid-week. Then I could go on to Moab - now there's a plan

And yes, I think I filled out the poll like months ago so a big for me.

and maybe a cold beer!

We're bring the dogs (they go almost everywhere with us) so we're renting a KOA cabin. It's a step above camping (enclosed and heated) but not nearly as nice and expensive as a condo, motel, etc (but no private shower, etc).

Box Canyon doesn't allow dogs. I have a book called "Canine Colorado" that lists dog friendly lodging in Ouray. Some require a small fee for dogs. Here's a list:

Ouray KOA
Ouray Cottage Motel
Polly's Riverside Inn
Red Mountain Inn
River's Edge Motel
Singer Cabin
Ouray Vicotian Inn
Timber Inn

When I called Box Canyon, they recommended the River's Edge (I keep thinking about that Dennis Hopper movie. Yikes!) So I think I'll try there.
