It's been many moons since I lived in Jersey.
Parents are still there, so we visit as often as we can.
For some reason I prefer Colorado...

IN NJ, the pickings are slim.

The Pine Barrens have 100's of miles of trails, sandy or muddy mostly, some dirt and some rutted hills...lots of boggy areas, etc.

Not much in the way of rocks, but, a great place for newbies as the trails are wide and you can go around almost every thing as needed, etc.

In October, there's an annual clean-up out there, where 100's of offroaders show up and help the park rangers haul old boats, abandoned cars, beer bottles, tires, TV sets, etc...to waiting tractor trailers, dumpsters, etc.

The NJ DEP/Rangers provide gloves, bags, etc...and even send you a formal letter thanking you for your aide to the environment, etc.

Its pretty much the only legal place to wheel, that's FREE around here.

After that...there's some places around the DE Water Gap...and a few miles west of that, there's the two giant PA offroad parks, Paragon, and Raush Creek...which are really great places to wheel.

NIORA has a run to RC in August, weekend of the 10th I think...great people to hook up with.

Check it out.

I'm shooting for the 8/10 weekend right now if the weather and the wife's brain seizures and strokes take a break for me to get some work done, etc.

And If I miss that, there's practically weekly RC runs between the guys I know...just not as many at one time, I've done runs with just me and one other truck for example, but they like at least 3 at a time.

Is there a map or guide to the trails in the Pine barrens. I live maybe 10 minutes from there and want to try it out. I've read about people going to the Atsion Ranger station, would they help me out?

Almost every off road meeting is at the Atsion Ranger Station on Rt. 206....IIRC, Most GPS units have it some where around 706 Rt 206 South....give or take a few #'s.

The Ranger Station itself won't be of much use...but, if you continue south on Rt 206, past it a little ways...you'll see a sign for a vistor center on your left...a much larger facility with a museum, bathrooms, etc....

...THEY have topo maps, and more detailed guides, etc....for a small fee, very reasonable, a few bucks.

BTW - The most popular spot AFTER wheeling is the Pic A Lilly...amazing wings.
