Didn't know where to put this, as there isn't really a forum to say "thanks for great service"
Just bought a co2 system from the people at http://www.4x4rockshop.com
Those guys are great! I wanted some extra options after I ordered, and they totally took care of me... after my tank had shipped! I'd recommend them and their most excellent customer service to anyone.

This is what I bought
http://www.4x4rockshop.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=2388

I figure we don’t hear enough about good service, so I thought I’d post my expierence.

They even sell Xterra parts wink

Yeah - the concept of photograph ownership rights has gone right out the window with the 'net...

Xterradam, with just the one gauge how do you know how much CO2 is left in your bottle? I am not sure of your use but with lockers I like to know when my bottle is getting low.

FYI, I emailed you last night about the photo. I'm a Shrockworks dealer and that is the photo they provided me for use on our website (and probably other dealers). If they were not to share that photo then I apologize, but you'll need to get with Jim at Shrockworks about the usage.

there are scales out there that are set weigh the difference between an empty bottle and full bottle.

yea, weigh your bottle when you get it and sharpie the empty weight on there, then use a $10 fish scale from Wally World to check it.

I was just wondering because I like the PowerTank setup with both gauges. One for the bottle like dive bottle gauges and the second to adjust pressure for whatever you are using.

You guys must have some pretty big fish up in your area... my 15lb tanks seems pretty heavy when full wink smile

that "bottle pressure" guage is useless in a co2 setup, it'll read about 800 psi (room temp) until it is about gone..... the only way to know how much liquid you have in your tank is to weigh it.

most fish scales go to 30lb smile

Thanks for the heads up on that 800PSI I guess I'll get a scale this weekend smile

Here's something I've always been concerned with regarding C02 bottles: Am I the only one who thought about the safety of having this in the cab? Suppose it leaks, you dont know it, it fills the cab with C02, you fall asleep, you crash or just suffocate and die.

C02 is how we euthanize our research mice. Fill the cage with C02 and they die pretty rapidly and painlessly. confused

And those damn infernal combustion engines, they put out CO through the exahust pipe...if that leaks, it might put you to sleep and you'd wake up dead.

laugh

I've never heard of any one having that bad of a leak in their CO2 systems.

CO2 is takes up space normally needed for 02, but isn't really poisonous like CO is...so you suffocate, which takes some time.

Normal air is about 21% O2, and you can stay awake above 16% for most people.

To add 5% CO2 to the total air in the truck interior, you'd need to add a total of about 5 cf of CO2, about one big tire's worth...and to maintain it there against the flushing effect of the normal ventilation present...which is approximately 5-20 cfm.

A leak would therefore need to be in the order of 5-20 cfm to reach that threshold.

I think most CO2 tanks take about 30 seconds to fill about half the volume of that size tire, so a flow rate of about 5-10 cfm might be about right. (Probably published rates somewhere...but for this example, as long as that's a minimum flow rate, we'll use it...)

So, if the windows were closed and the HVAC set to recirculate, the CO2 tank should theoretically be able to flow enough CO2 into the cabin to be a problem.

Of course, when the tank is leaking at that rate, its the same rate that you fill a tire with or more, and will make a proprtional amount of noise (A warning property).

So - a slow leak would be unlikely to cause harm, and a fast enough leak to cause harm would merely weed out those of us who listen to the stereo too loudly.

a leak... probably not anything to worry about, but I heard about a jeeper who had his CO2 tank overpressure valve pop off in his back tub area and the deafening explosion made his ears ring for 2 or 3 days. not to mention that he crapped his pants.

The over pressure valve is to avoid explosion by releasing excessive pressure.

CO2 tanks use 800 psi, and maintain it about until its all used up.

The noise is typically noticeable if it blows, and, again, while scary, is not dangerous, assuming you don't drive off a cliff in fright, etc.

I guess those small C02 tanks dont have enough volume to saturate the interior with C02.

Oh, they have the volume, but a slow leak too quiet to notice wouldn't have the flowrate, and a sudden release of a sufficient flow rate would be noticeable.

So - if you are smart enough to notice that the tank is leaking when the noise tips you off, and open a window, you will be fine as far as suffocating goes.
