Did they say when?

Any of you SCCX SD based owners want to check them out?

Looks they they will be smog legal here, hopefully reasonably priced? and a good alternative for those looking to replace the factory crack manifolds.

I know JBA makes headers for the Titan.

When they say headers for the X and Frontier are they talking about the 2000-2004 X or the current models?

If no one else does, I will give a call today and ask if its just for the '05's and newer or if its the "classic" Xterras as well...

I just called JBA Headers, and talked to John Powers, a Production Manager. He said that they are in the process of producing headers for the Xterra/Frontier. He said that they are trying to have them done by the SEMA show, and should be in production some time next year. He said its just a matter of getting trucks lined up for R&D time and trying to fit them into their schedule. I asked if they were only for the 2005+, and he said that they are most likely going to go back a few years also, but the 2005+ models will be priority over the 2000-2004 models. But it did sound like they were in the process, not just thinking/toying with the idea. [ThumbsUp]

Hey, not sure if I'm wording this right...but, are they going to be "street legal?"

I thing it was SLR (?) that had headers for the Xterra, but they said they were NOT "street legal" because you had to remove the cats, or pre-cats...somrthing like that.

Any of this sound familar? If so, what are these new guys planning?

Well by looking at their website, i'm assuming that they will be made under the same specifications as all of their other headers (such as the ones for the titian). Therefor, i'm guess thing that they will be legal. See HERE for their header info (which will most likely be the same in reguards to the product for the xterra/frontier.)

The Xterra should be the same as the Frontier. We will probably do the 05 first, then the earlier ones. My guess the R&D will be around the end of December.

Their is a company here in Mass - Lou's Custom Exhaust.

A couple of NEXTerra owners have cracked exhaust manifolds, and are going to talk to them about making headers for the Xterra - 00-01 years.

I'll let you know if anything develops from that.

JBA headers:

Upside: Someone is actually making us headers
They are legal and pass smog
Cheap price compared to custom
Probably $5-600

Downside:

Not equal length.
Not the best possible design for max HP
MIG welded and cheap coating.

The reason why JBA can make them legal is because they are basically a tube manifold replacement for the cast manifolds. There is a big difference between a "header" and what we will end up with from JBA. While I am excited about someone finally stepping up and producing a legal "header" for the X, I am dissapointed that I likely will have to settle for something less than what I really want like an equal length thermal coated shorty header, just to stay legal.

What are the differences between the proposed JBA headers and the SLR headers?
