after watching some of the videos of goneMOAB I am dying to go, hopefully next year.. I estimated the cost of shipping my X to Oakland, CA at around $1800.00 around trip.. Plus I will have to ship all the other toys I can't leave in the X while its being shipped. So im looking at around $2,600.00 to get myself, stuff and the X to Oakland California.. Figure in about 3k to get to MOAB.. how much does it cost once you are at MOAB such as registration, camping, or anyother fees I might incure. By camping I don't mind sleeping in a tent or even the X for a few days. Did it when i went down to Oklahoma Dday last year.. I know its a lot of money but i am prob going to travel around the mainland looking for Jobs and the such since I am about to Grad from College.

Moab can be as expensive or as cheep as you want to go.
Some costs that can't be avoided are some park fees. You may want to budget about $40 for the week.
Camping can be free or at a private campground at around $20 a night.
Food, kind of depends on what you want to eat. There is a market in town as well as a bunch of places to eat out.
Gas prices are going be in line with what you are paying for in Honolulu.

There are no fees for goneMoab, but we are going to be selling t-shirts (about $15 each, details to follow). We are also going to have a raffle at $10 a ticket.

If you drink then figure on paying a few extra bucks for booze.

After living in the land of island prices you should find Moab to be no big surprise.

4200 miles roundtrip for us, not counting the trails and such when we get there. Sharing a condo aroun $200 each. Not to bad actually. What type of gas prices do we look for out there? Also, is there cell phone service in Moab?

Yes there is cell service. I have had both Cingular & Verizon work there without roaming.

Regular unleaded is going to run close to So Cal prices, maybe a bit more. Right now we are 2.60 or so.

Cell phone service has been getting better. Last year I had no problem with my Cingular phone. I think the Verizon guys did ok too.

Yahoo maps says it's about 15 hours and close to a 1,000 miles. You might want to plan a few more hours for rest stops etc... if you are planning on doing it in one shot. Unless you are going to have someone to share the driving you should consider splitting the drive over a few days so you can enjoy the drive.

Not sure how modded out your truck is....BUT...

For the experience and to check it out than why not just rent a 4x4. Heck you would get an 05 or 06. Check around I can't belive they would have an off road for rental but maybe smile

I taught about that.. But I am also going to be going to other events and traveling around the country.. Kind of getting island fever right now and need to be able to drive for a few hours and not see the same thing.. After all the work I have done on my rig I really want to see what it can do..

On the cell service. Good to know they have coverage. Thanks guys.

On gas. Hmm that's about what we are paying Florida right now, so no shock as of yet.

See you all soon.

If you're gonna drive from the port of Oakland to Moab, budget about 17 hours of travel time, including stops for gas and food. It's about 1100 miles, and is best done in 2 days. You can take longer if you'd like to do some sightseeing along the way. For example, you could drive the southern route through Las Vegas and I-15/I-70, you could see Bryce, Zion, and/or Capitol Reef National Parks. Sure, it might cost you a little more for gas and/or lodging, but heck, you've already spent $2600 just to get yourself onto the mainland! What's a hundred or so more?!

Anyway, don't forget about the time differences as you travel, too. You're gonna be on Hawaii time when you get to CA, so you'll be really sleepy in the mornings, and as you cross between NV and UT, you'll lose yet another hour. Restaurants in smaller cities in UT may close earlier than you expect.
