But... There's 3, (count 'em, 3) different CAT setups on the 1st Gen Xterra with the V6 engine.
1) There's the original, with only 1 cat each side. 2) There's the second, with 2 cats each side (California emissions for all) 3) Redisigned exhaust manifolds to eliminate the cracking problem on/around 2002, with 2 cats each side, and the addition of the EGR system. ok, can someone clear something up for me? I read this post, and looked under my 2000 XE, and I have a single exhaust with 2 cats, one right before the muffler, and one right after, with an exit on the driver's side. I don't understand what "one/two cats each side" means Thanks.

My stupid question time...
Is there any difference between the Xterra/Frontier - Keep cats - (2 cats each side stock, CA legal) Xterra/Frontier - Keep cats - (2 cats each side w/ EGR system stock)?

Can't answer those questions, but my pickup was in with Hank today (same guy that will be developing these headers if there's the interest) and he is an awesome guy. Not to mention the projects in his shop I didn't get the exhaust done today because he doesn't do a half assed job, and there were a couple bolts that would not come off w/o getting out the torch, and well the body was too close to the exhaust for that. So I am going to soak the bolts in PB blaster until next week

Sorry..I'm a traitor. You can take me off the list. I just fell into a set of SLR headers for cheap. I'm going to make those work with a custom exhaust. Thanks!

Even if I was given a set of SLR headers for free, I couldn't use them so Ken . . . . Why . . . Cause I'm jealous, that's why

LOL.. Too funny guys. After much research in NY state crap. As long as the Engine light doesnt come on it will pass. So it should be good. Just have to get the safety on the up and up now. Poor steering. I'm just happy to finally put an end to the cracked manifolds!! This will be the third time the passenger side gets replaced. ugh.. At least the 2" body lift should make the install a tad bit easier. BTW.. Here is a good link and write up on how to install these things. SLR installation instructions... Click on SLR headers link on left Something you might want to look into when designing the new headers. It addresses the EGR system and relocating the O2 sensors like previously mentioned.

Sounds like the poll is working for some people, others can't get it to show up right. In the HTML code that shows up (if it isn't being displayed correctly) it says Javascript must be enabled. Never had to mess with that before... I want to make sure everyone that is interested gets their vote in. The more votes the better the chance this project will happen. Here's what it shows me: What setup would you be most interested in? Parenthesis symbolize model they're going on!
Xterra/Frontier - NO cats 0% (0 Votes) Pathfinder (96-00 3.3L only) - NO cats 20% (3 Votes) Xterra/Frontier - Keep cats - (1 cat each side stock) 33% (5 Votes) Xterra/Frontier - Keep cats - (2 cats each side stock, CA legal) 7% (1 Votes) Xterra/Frontier - Keep cats - (2 cats each side w/ EGR system stock) 13% (2 Votes) Pathfinder (96-00 3.3L only) - Keep cats 27% (4 Votes)

Tack on a vote for me for California smog legal headers for my '00. I'm willing to pay DOUBLE what SLR charges, as long as they make a significant amount of power, and I can get my X smogged in California.

I'd like to get the headers, but need to keep the cats in place as well. So sign me up for a set.

Hey everyone... No progress has been made yet but hopefully I'll get working on it shortly. The guy who owns the shop had to finish building a cage for a buggy and told me I could bring mine down in a few weeks...a few weeks ago. Now I just need to figure out when I can deal with leaving the Pathfinder down there for 3-4 weeks. Once the headers are built for the Pathfinder it should be pretty easy for the shop to modify them to work with an Xterra. Might be as simple as changing the flanges for the cats.
