I have a 2001 X and the front end sits about 1-2 inches lower than the back end. Is this something that is standard? I purchased my X used, so I don't know how the '01s looked off the lot.
I was just concerned that my suspension might need replacing soon - it has about 55k miles on it. I was also concerned because I will be replacing the tires soon to 265/70/16 BFG T/A KO and dont want to run into any rubbing or trimming.

The X is naturally nose down anywhere from 1-2 inches. It was designed that way. All 00-04 came like that. You could level it out by cranking the torsion bars a bit but that will change your alignment and possibly change the quality of your stock ride. As far as the suspension wearing out don't worry about it at 55k, some folks here have +100K miles on stock suspension, things like bushings or shocks might need replacement but for the "suspension" being replaced I wouldn't think so. Good luck with the tires, cranking the torsion bars (raising the front suspension) doesn't allow for bigger tires frown , bodylifts allow for bigger tires. Besides the size you picked should fit fine.

flyinV81, I bougth some bf goodrich all terrains wt 265/70/16 and i had to shave only because when i crank the wheel hard to the left to back out i heard a rubbing sound. I took a closer look and found the wheel was rubbing againt the plastic front bumper. No problem, I just took a razor blade with a hook blade thing on it and just shaved it off. May not happen in your case thouhgt. You should be fine.

Why the paranoia about trimming?

laugh

Its only soft plastic, and it doesn't show.

275/70/16's are a better size btw than 265/70/16 if you are getting BFG AT ko's.

Thanks for the info guys. Much appreciated.

As far as trimming goes - I dont mind doing a little trimming. In fact I was thinking about 265/75/16 as well - any thoughts on this?

I didnt want to get too wide of a tire because I dont offroad much, and I figure a 275/70/16 would eat a litte more gas driving to work.

A 265/75/16 would have more of an overall impact than a 275/70/16 would.

The 70 aspect ratio would handle better on road than the taller sidewalled 75 aspect ratio as well.

i'm running 265/75/16 Cooper ATRs and its great, some trimming is required, but like TJ said, its not noticable, literally took me about 5 minutes per side

You could probably use a torsion crank to eliminate any sag that has occured over the years and possibly some new shocks to help control the ride.

Or if the wife needs a bit of convincing/help from someone other than you, the suspension is shot and you need to replace it with a 3" lift?

A new steering setup?

New front bumper to protect the investment?

A full set of skids?

A new rear bumper/tire carrier?

A new stereo system to help hide the squeeks/rattles?

A set of lights to illuminate hazards in the road that might hurt the suspension more?

New tires/wheels?

etc...

Yeah - my wife was told that my suspension was sagged about 3", and my body bushings had sagged about 2".

I fixed it of course.

Hey there flyinV81,

Is the wife convinced about the "State of the Suspension" yet?

When are we all coming over for a wrenching day?
