#42340 - 27/11/01 05:36 PM Would anyone be interested in Gibson Headers?

I just e-mailed Gibson Performance to see if they would be interested in producing headers for the Xterra 3.3L.
They originally made the 3.3L Gibson Exhaust from R&D they did on my truck, so I figured that they might be responsive to questions about headers since they dealt with me before.
I guess the question now is, how many of you would be interested in buying headers from Gibson Performance if they produced them? I think it would be a great way to improve performance and to bypass the cracked manifold problem that some Nissans seem to have.
The more people who are interested, the better chance we would have of getting them built. These would be 50-state SMOG legal because Gibson Performance is located in California.

So, who's interested?

That just happens to be on top of my list for performance mods, after the holidays I was going to do more research so keep me/us informed...I am very interested.

If you could keep the Xterra as quiet as it is now, I would be interested! I don't want noisy headers out on the trails!

Other models' prices look to be anywhere from $300-$400 on a V6. Of course, I guess that depends on the distributor you buy them through. Obviously I don't have pricing information, but I hope they would be about the same cost as other V6 headers made by Gibson.

By the way:
To all who may read this post, if you say you would be interested, you are not bound in any way to buy Gibson headers. I am just trying to gauge the general feeling on how many people want headers so that I can get Gibson to produce them. Pretty much, I want to say, "Yeah, a lot of people said they would be interested if Gibson offered headers."

The more performance parts they make for the Xterra, the better. They could use the Xtra HP. laugh

Yup laugh I contacted HotShot Performance recently, which is also local to Socal, and they would rather focus on the rice market for now so if Gibson needs X's to prototype just let me know. We have plenty in SCCX that would be more than happy to take a trip to their shop.

It's headers, not an exhaust.
I think we have a line of people who want to use their Xterra for the prototype.
Take a number. laugh

Sounds good, considering the 2002SE/SC can't handle being redlined in Drive without that damndable internal saftey shutoff dohickymabob. Dealer said you can get on it all you want in O-Drive(damn) and to think I had this little rice burn'n integra smoked!!!
Who would have thought Nissan was gonna let me down with this saftey feature.

So long as it is an excellent build quality, with good longgevity, and no modification needed for install (moving this sensor or that, it does just fine but it knocks a little on this or that, etc...). It would be nice if they could keep the price within $500 or so (but I would rather have a quality part than a cheep part, they are to much of a pain in the ass to change more than once!). What material are they thinking of making them out of? Wall thickness?

Anything you find out would be god to know.

We're working with Gibson right now to figure all of this stuff out. Everyone's replies helped very much, and I think that Gibson is going to try to make these. They even e-mailed me and said that without this thread, they wouldn't even have considered them, but after seeing the response, they're going to see what they can do.

We'll see what they think about the current exhaust manifold and/or sensors.

Everyone keep their fingers crossed!

Only the warranty for the exhaust system and/or exhaust manifolds (basically the parts you are replacing).

Hey all, I just got an email back from Shawn Gibson at Gibson Performance, he said the header will most likely be out in 1-2 months. He also said for people lucky enough to live in Southern CA can sign up for the header and exhaust for free now(proto tester)!! Go to there website and click on Free exhaust, lower right hand side. He said to fill it out and send it to his attention. I'd be interested if any of you decide to do this! smile smile

I'm pretty sure that someone else has already contacted Shawn and set up an appointment to do the headers...have you talked to him yet?

No---- frown unfortunitly I haven't. I know it a long shot as there are several X's here in SoCal. It's worth a shot though. I've filled out the online form awhile back. I just didn't have any way to directly contact Shawn.

I gave him the link here and told him to take a look at how many people were interested. Hopefully they'll get them out soon!

I just got off the phone with Shawn Gibson at Gibson performance. He did in fact recieve all of your responces and appreciates that there is a market for headers for the X. Unfortunately he stated that his business is distributer driven. So far the only distributer that he has had any significant requests for headers has been SLR.

He does recognize that there is a demand but so far being limited basically to the internet and not the distributers that he talks to on a day to day basis. He also told me that they have actually only done one V6 header that he knows of so one for the X is going to take a significant ammount of R&D and they have many other jobs that need to come first. Ultimately , it comes to this; people who modify the X fall into a niche market. As usaul noone is in a huge hurry to manufacture something that isn't going to sell enough to justify the costs associated with it.

But there is hope. I'm going up there in the next couple of weeks. They're going to look it over to see if it's something that they determine can in fact be doable. He said he has to get some other things off their plate now and looks at this more as an elective project. But he hasn't lost interest. He said he's looking in the four to six month range.

Once a prototype is done he wants it driven daily for a few weeks up to a couple of months forlong term testing. Engine lights, real performance gains , durability ect. some of the things he wants to look at.

I haven't given up. He likes Spencer and wants to do this for him and his customers. He seems like he's genuinely interested but it's going to take some time. And maybe a little more prodding.

I think that both Jackel and EOE want to distribute the headers as well, so you might want to bring that up...

Huh I did send them an e-mail saying EOE was interested in helping in any way to get this project moving, looks like I will make a phone call to Shawn as we definetly are interested in carrying the headers for the X/Frontier.

Hmm - have you thought about the cost of having these installed?

Took the dealer ALL day to replace my cracked right header. Not an easy/cheap job.

(Mine was under warrenty.)

For many people here, it's a DIY job.

You probably had your manifold replaced as the X doesn't come with headers in stock form.

I just wanted to say, "Count me in!".

I didn't want this to be left unsaid today.

I could just e-mail the company to let them know my interest, but naaaaa, what's the point in that.

Of everyone who said, "Count me in/Me too!", how many of you actually own an upgraded exhaust system and can benefit from the new headers?

I've always considered headers part of the exhaust system. I figured I would wait and get both if/when the headers become available. One really doesn't do much good without the other. I am looking forward to the headers as well and will get a set regardless of price (within reason) when they become available. Until then I will just have to spend money on things that are available smile

Strom, you need to count me in for a pair also.

I have joined the ranks of the unlucky. I discovered my exhaust manifold (right) is cracked. eek

Damn, 1000k after warranty ran out. I'll be damned if I go through all the trouble to replace the manifold if I have the option to replace them with headers!!

Ask Socalpunx about how the headers are going. He is the one having dealing with Gibson at this point.

Everyone be sure to thank him, too - it takes a lot of time to deal with companies, and you usually have to give up your transportation for a while!

I am looking forward to them, too. Hopefully they will be out soon!

New to the site here's my .02 cents.I loaned my wife's 2002 X to Gibson on 2/12/02 for R&D on a catback exhaust. It fits like the "01".Just to let you know!!I talked to Shawn in R&D about headers 8 yes 8 months to a year till those go on the drawing board. He did say to keep in touch though in case they bump them up on the calender.SoCalPunx if you read this send me an e-mail and let me know what Shawn told you.Hope this info helps! confused

Go to the middle of page 5 in this topic and read my post. That's pretty much where we are at until we have our next monthly conversation. I called and touched bases with him once since then but that's where we are at now .

According to what I know, the guestimate you recieved seems to be about right , give or take a couple of months.
