Brought my 2000 X into the dealer for belt replacement... mine's at 100K miles. He's saying one of the back shocks is "blown" and the other three are "soft" (his words not mine).

I really haven't noticed any difference in the ride... nothing crazy when I'm driving it. How do I know this guy ain't full of it?

100,000 miles on stock shocks and they should be more than shot.

Buy a set of Bilsteins and install them yourself - $265 or so and they're far and away better than the POS stock shocks. Don't waste your money on another pair of stockers.

If went to school for auto mechanics and this is the way I was taught to test shocks: Grab a corner of the X and start pushing on it to get it moving up and down. Once you get it going as good as you can, push down one more time and let go. The X should go up and down once and then stop. If it keeps moving, you need new shocks.
