Does anyone know if it would be possible to use a long travel setup consisting of extended radius arms and I beams? The type I am referring to crosses to the opposite side wheel, and can allow for some crazy travel (like 15" in some cases).
I don't know if this is even possible with the Xterra, so put me in my place if I am wrong.

Anything can be done, all you need is cash and someone who can weld.

You'd be better off trading in the X, and getting a Cherokee and spending $5k on a lift.

Yes, I know "anything can be done". I am getting into some prerunning and desert running, so I was just wondering if it was possible (as in monetarily feasible) to have this type of setup on the X. I don't want to spent $5k on a lift - looking around, similar lifts cost $1500-$2000. I just wanted to know if that type of lift could be made for the Xterra as a "bolt on" kit.

For months now, Spencer Low has had a "Long travel IFS kit" "in the works" as they like to say, but I haven't heard anything about it for at least 6 months.

Yeah, I just saw that on their site...I am going to press them on that issue if they don't address it in response to the email I sent them. Hopefully they (or someone else) will respond to the desire I have seen by several owners for a long-travel setup.

They returned my e-mail and told me to call them if I was really interested. Just got off the phone with them, and they told me that they are in the testing stages for the 2WD long travel kit.
The first kit they are going to sell is bolt on and keeps the stock lower arms. There is an option for a dual shock setup and it is going to have front coils via a frame-bolted shock hoop that will sit inside the front wheel well (very snug). It should get about 11"-12" of travel.
The second is similar, but it replaces both the upper and lower arms and is going to cost more. It should get about 14" to 15" of travel.
After they finish the 2WD testing, they plan on fabricating some CV joints that can handle the angles needed for longer travel in 4WD trucks. All I can say is "the more you want to spend, the bigger you can go." They seem willing to make kits that will fit whatever needs you may have, as long as you have the money.
Again, this is what they told me over the phone, so I am not sure what will be the case when the lifts actually come out. Regardless, this all sounds REALLY cool. SLR said they would call me as soon as it's available, so I will let everyone know then.
