more of a curiousity question than anything else.
Has anyone looked into the new locker system offered on the offroad package of the 05 X, and if weather or not it may be adaptable to the 00-04 diffs? I dont know if nissan has changed the actual diff on the 05 that much. I just figured that if I could find an ansewer , this would be the place, The nissan Rep I asked didnt know.

Yep. They've changed the diff a tad bit...

It's no longer the Nissan H233B rear axle. It's a Dana 44. So, no, the e-locker won't work at all in the earlier models.

the dana 44 has much more options for aftermarket axle shafts, lockers, etc than the H233B. However ive never heard of anyone breaking the H233B and have seen many 44's broken up....

We don't know enough about the Nissan D44, it could have a different axle shaft diameter and/or spline count than the ones used in Jeeps, Isuzus, etc. so the aftermarket may or may not have anything off-the-shelf for the new Nissan D44

It definitely has a different wheel lug pattern than the H233B (still 6-lug, but a smaller bolt circle), so anyone swapping an 05 D44 under the back would almost certainly be looking to put a solid axle up front as well. I don't know if there are even front D44 applications with the same lug pattern used on the 05 Xterra and Frontier to match offhand.

If I was going to swap axles at both ends I would just get either d44's or d60's. do both the same, and the gesrs & lockers are the same.. why spend money to get a "special" axle from Nissan, when you can get a generic D44 for (maybe) less, and have alot more aftermarket parts and options..

Man, I want a locker so badly on my truck [Crybaby] If there was a way to put the factory electronic one in, I'd do it in a heart beat.

The axle shafts are not the same as anything currently on the market.

They are D44, but with a 32 spline count, vs. the 30 and 35 spliners out there. Also, they did something with the carrier inside (not exactly sure what, haven't been that far into it yet) so as to not facilitate easy installation of any current lockers and such.

Not sure on the last part, just conjecture from a couple of techs. The spline count is from a Titan, but we're told it's the same as the Frontier and Xterra. The Titan and Armada's are also running the D44 setups.

The Armada has an R230 in the rear, not a D44.

The Titan D44 shares NO common parts with the older D44's except the ring and pinions. EVeRYTHING else is different in one way or another.
