It's not just the 05's. They all suck.

I replaced the horn within 1 week of getting my X. Now, it actually sounds like a truck. [ThumbsUp]

Do you guys have a suggestion for an easy to install aftermarket horn for my 05? I wiould like something high quality that would bolt right in with a minimum of effort. Oh, and of course louder than the wimpy stock horn.

The Hellas. Took me about half an hour.

Do a search. There's a thread on here about horns.

Thanks, I did look at those posts but was wondering about things like connectors and wiring. Did the stock connectors work with the Hellas?

Ideally I would like to unbolt the stock horn and bolt in another one without doing any extra wiring or changes to the factory connectors.

Would using just one 500MHz Hella high tone be better than my stock horn? Or do you really need both the low and high tone Hellas to get enough sound out? I like the simplicity of using one replacement horn.

Also, did you have to remove the plastic grill cover to replace yours? Or did you just slip your hands down into there where the stock horn is?

You'll definitely have to remove the grille. It's simple though, pop rivets on top and snaps on the bottom. Careful not to bust any of them if you do tackle this job.

Hating the OEM horn myself, I ordered a set of Wolo Extreme series dual horns for 25 bucks which I'll probably install later in the week. Installation is straightforward. You will need dual terminal horns as the original setup and probably anything under 10A should be ok. I'm sure Max6spd will chime in with some more useful info.

Yes, there's a single terminal for power and ground. So, I split it so that each horn got it. Works fine. It came with a relay, but I didn't use it.

I didn't see what it sounded like with just one horn. Since they came in a set, I didn't know what I was going to do with the extra horn so I added that one, too. I would think that the high horn would just sound too high and will sound funny. It would be best with both.

Thanks guys. Good info. I noticed they sell the Hellas individually (high or low tone), that's why I asked.

Just installed my new horn today.
This is what I did: I kept the stock horn, which is a low tone horn and added a high tone horn. Wired the two in parallel and kept the stock original wiring as it was on the stock horn. The new horn is a Wolo unit.
Sounds "normal" now....I can beep again!

So you are saying that Nissan only provides one horn (it does sound that way)?

the shrill , gets your attention right now, American horn tone has always been two horns which are off key and really blare a raspy harmonic.

I'll have to look into it.

That's right, Nissan only provides one (low tone) horn with the X - "everything you need, nothin' you don't", remember?...

Well, I felt I needed that second horn to make it "american". Sounds great now.
