Hey All,

I've got a new 06 X, Auto, 4x4 that makes a strange mechanical sound when shifting into 2nd gear. I didn't notice it until I was driving one day with the stereo off, but now that I'm tuned to it I can hear it everytime. It happens when the vehicle has been shut down and sat for 10 minutes or more. Anyway, it sounds like a metalic and mechanical "clink" noise. I happens only when the vehicle shifts to 2nd gear on the first shift but doesn't happen again until the vehicle sits for a while and is restarted. Meaning, that it doesn't happen on subsequent shifts, only the first time the vehicle shifts to 2nd gear. So if I'm at a red light and start forward a second time it won't happen-only the first shift to 2nd after it's been sitting for a while. I can't tell if it's coming from the front or rear. I can't feel it but I can hear it. The only mod I have made is a towing hitch since I bought it. Any ideas?

Its a test for the ABS/VDC system and is normal. It will do it every time you turn the car off then back on. Hope that helps.
