No, definitely not.

I'm fully capable of changing the oil myself, but do I? No. Why? Check it:

- You have to do the labor yourself (duh)
- You have to dispose of the oil/filter properly
- You have no real record of it

I go to the dealer, where they do all the work and I get a computerized printout showing the mileage and service performed. This is great, should you decide to sell the X down the road... You can show proof of proper maintenance to a potential buyer.

That and well, I'm lazy. laugh

Absolutely not, just keep receipts for your oil and filter purchases.

Such labor it is, let me tell you! I spend more time letting the oil drain out then I do dropping the skid plate and the R&R of the plug and filter.

just don't take it to any speedy places.
they almost emptied 5+ quarts in my motor!
Luckily I cought the guy as he was about to put the 4th quart in with the 5th in hand!? mad

I yelled out STOP! WHAT R U DOING!!
the guy looked at me like = confused

I would also like to add, I needed a quick oil change after work, before heading out to Tahoe and didn't have time, so there.

I wonder what would have happened?

You could have foamed the oil from the crank splashing around. Foamed oil doesn't flow very well...

Or you could have blown seals and gaskets from excessive oil pressure.

Yeah I wonder what would happen if some bright person dumped 5 quarts into it...LOL. I almost saw someone do the same to mine! Good thing they got stopped as well.

As brent said, just keep your reciepts for all lube and other items necessary to do the maintenance. I also save the box top of the oil filter box, and write the date, milage, oil brand and viscosity used. It also is to your benefit to keep good records of your maintenance (dates, milage, products used, etc.).
