yeah looking at it again, a 33" tire will probably fit up underneath with about 10-15 psi pulled out. as for the 305s, i haven't tried it, but another guy did and his words: "the 305s needed too much hacking to fit" not a hundred percent sure what that entails, but take it for what you will.

I guess i was just thinking that a couple other people had taken to carrying their 33" spare elsewhere. so, buyer beware and take a look at it.

I really like the underinflation solution - rather than carrying a mismatched spare. This will also allow me to go with a 5 wheel rotation if I wish. I think I'll give it a try and if successful shop for a portable 12v air compressor to air up if needed.

Thanks for all of the great info on this topic.

i'm pretty sure, if you keep your tire pressure sensors, that you shouldn't do a 5 tire rotation. the spare doesnt' have one, and i believe it even recommends in the owners manual not to.

yes, on page 8-37

"Do not include the spare tire in the tire
rotation."

Thanks lj. I won't be too concerned about not having the pressure sensor if I go w/ a 5 tire rotation. There was a good discussion here during the summer about 5 tire rotation -vs- 4 tire.

Or, toss the 33" spare on the roof and toss a pancake compressor tank where the spare should be.

This is my plan over the winter.

I have had my spare inside just waiting for my rear tire carrier. I am not sure if the 33 will fit with the tow package, it was very tight without it on. I personally did not even try since my solution will be the tire carrier. The way I see it, spend $220 (or so) on a tow package or throw in another $500 (or so) and get a nice setup with the tire carrier.

If you deflate that spare, make sure you have a good reliable source to pump it back up... whether its a CO2 set up or just a 12V pump.

Just replaced the stock 32" rugged trails with the 285/75R16 BFG AT KO's yesterday, and man what a difference! Tires fit great with just minimal molding of some plastic. I'll have a couple pics up later to add to the collection.

Congrats Dan - looking forward to seeing your pics. I plan to do the same if my '06 ever arrives. My dealership called and told me my order will be delayed because Nissan has halted production of the '06s until January. Not sure if this is a regular holiday break, or because of a problem or inventory backup.

Hey Dan B. Were you able to keep the splashguards on after installing the 285/75/16's? Any other issues since you put them on?

Thanx, DanM.

and to think I have a 70 percent new set of 285 BFG AT KO's stacked in my garage left over from my diesel truck.

don't make me do it... I already ordered schrok bars and some of those bumpstops for the rear suspension mod. gotta have something left for the jeep and shotgun fund...jeez.

Get rid of the splashgaurds... it will give the X a better look plus I promise you, the first time you take it off the road you are going to destroy them on a little pebble. If you are not going to wheel... then why upgrade the tires?

I left the splashguards off, and the tires still run great. No issues. I do think that if you really wanted, the splashguards would still fit with no rubbage, but I could be wrong. I plan to keep them off because I realized they were indeed more vulnerable than helpful. I'm going to take some pics later today, so check back in a little.

I don't do any serious wheeling, my off road adventures are limited to minor stuff to get to a nice camp/hiking spot. The bigger tires are simply to make it stand out a little more and the BFG AT's are much better on the ice which is a big plus living up here.

Man this is really good info! They look great , great pics! I'm planning on buying new rims and tires, one for being a sissy and one set for getting down and dirty! I'm going to wait and see what the S lift will do for me but I am going to keep the tire size reasonable so as to not jack up mileage or power, or articulation.
This size looks good.

The front tires rub against the flimsy skirt, this will be resolved once the lift is on.

The spare fits!!! A good 2" away from exhaust, brake lines, etc.

Thanks again to Nissan!!! [ThumbsUp]
I just went to Sams club and walked away with a set just like this. I don't have an Off Road and I think that matters a little because I get a lot more rub on turns. I have to melt back some plastic on F Rear of fenderwell. R side rubs more than left! It's not at the point where you are turned all the way, it's like when you are getting there. But they look good! And the Spare fit PERFECT!!!! WITH A HIDDEN HITCH INSTALLED!

OH! and as I said above I'm going to use the other factory BFG's for a Summer set, I'm getting new rims but I had to order a seperate set of tire sensors for that at about $400 yes four hundred dollars for the set of four, they have to be installed on the rims and programed at the dealer with a special machine.

The whole deal will end up costing me like $3 Grand + an additional spare rim. for the two sets of tires and rims complete ready to swap.

No sensor goes into the spare tire. And dealer said can't shouldn't.

MC

I need a SL! Thanks for the info!

Forgot to ask in last post...Do you only have to mess with the tire pressure sensors if you change rims? Changing tire sizes alone does not affect this?

Thanx.

Correct, changing tires does not affect the sensors....unless a sensor is damaged during the mounting process.

Does anyone know what size tires will fit on a 2WD S without rubbing? I had 31x10.5 R15 BFG A/T KO's on my old pathfinder and it made it look great! They would rub a little if I hit an incline on a turn, but it was worth it. I'm interested in doing the same with my 2WD X and could use some help. Thanks smile

I am pretty sure the suspension is the same on the 2wd and 4wd, so I would think you could still fit the 33's.

After hee hawing back and forth between the BFG AT 265/75/16's and the 285/75/16's. I went with the 265's. They are a step up (in size) from the stock 265/70/16's and quite a few steps up in performance, looks, etc... I'm not a big "wheeling" guy and wanted to leave the splashguards on and not compromise my mileage as much as the bigger tires would, (not that it's that big a difference). The bottom line is they look awesome and being the X is mostly my second/Summer vehicle, they will last me for years to come.

Any size after market tire is an upgrade! Congrats and enjoy! The BFG A/T is extremely well suited for snow terrain... if you ever need that type of tire in the "summer!" And if not, you can always use it as a back up in the winter.

I have a problem with my recent purchase of Goodyear MTRs in size 285/75R16. My X shakes to death at speeds above 60mph (on the speedo). Everyint else on my truck is stock with the exception of these tires and some cosmetic stuff like roof rack, rock sliders, etc. (basically no suspension mods). I've had the tires re-balanced 2 times with no luck. Can anyone help me fix this? The shakes at highway speeds is totally ruining the ride.
