I saw a set of White Face Factory Gauge Pods on ebay. Not much for the aftermarkets available. Has anyone here swapped out the hard to see gray faced '03's for the white '04's? Could I just work the faces in or would I just plug in the new pods? Is the mileage stored in the X's computer? (will the new gauges display my trucks true mileage? Just wondering how big of a project a swap would be. Thanks.

Same question and thought I'd revive this thread. I can pull the instrument cluster from a wrecked 04 at a junkyard for cheap and was wondering if anyone new the answers to the original post.

Mainly I want to know if I can just plug the new ones in and keep my mileage. I swear I read/heard of someone doing this?

I've searched thoroughly...it seems the odometer reading is stored on a circuit board behind these gauges. Is that board part of this cluster? or somewhere else?

Not sure about Nissan, but GM products keep the mileage in the ecm. If that is the case here, and the plug matches up, it should be plug and play.

From what I could find it is not stored in the ECM.

I guess a bunch of 00-01' Xterras had problems with their guages. They had to replace a circuit board to fix it...the dealer had to do the replacement because the milage needed to be reprogrammed.

I assume the 02-04' are similar, in that the circuit board stores the mileage. I'm wondering if that circuit board is in the cluster (picture), or if it is something this cluster plugs into? Thanks

I bought and installed the reverse-glow gauges. You don't have to remove the needles or anything and it cost me about $30 on ebay. If you want pictures of it let me know. I love the backlit blue display at night.

I'd like to see pics... I have to replace my instrument cluster frown Shoddy mechanic cut / removed check engine LED when he trashed the wiring to my crank psoition sensor.

Want to "kill two birds with one stone" wink how can it be replaced without removing the needles?

The glow guages just slide on over the needles.
