My Dealer is telling me they cannot install a EC Mirror on my 2001 Xterra. The reason they are giving me is that I have a Channel Mirror Mount. I thought all 2001 Xterra's had Wedge Mounts, that only the 2000 Xterra's had Channel Mounts. But they are telling me that half way through the model year Nissan changed the Mirror Mounts from a Wedge back to a Channel.

Has anyone else run into or heard this???? Mine was built in November sometime.

I wanted to pull my mirror off last night just to see what kind of mounting I had, but it was dark and I couldn't figure out how to get it off. Any ideas with how to check?

I think I've heard that before, but you should check it anyway. Don't take their word for it.

BTW, I have heard that the mounts on the 2001s are different.

xterraparts only mentions the difference between 2000 and 2001. Yzerman is saying that he has a 2001 so it should work, but his dealer is telling him otherwise. It's easy enough to check your mount.

SkiCalif, my Dealer told me that all 2001 Xterra built in the first half of the model year used a Wedge Mount. While all the others built in the second half are going to use the same mount (Channel Mount) as the 2000 Xterra's. This just seems too odd to me that Nissan would just switch half way through the model year, but nothing surprises me.

My Dealer now is going to order this Wedge Mount and remove my old one (though it is on back order at the moment).

Good. Because, as I understand it, that is what happened.

I changed my mount too.

What is the dealer charging for the install?

SkiCalif how do you know F-Jackie?? you get Howard Stern out there??? anyway, getting back to the channel mount vs. wedge mount, i have a 2001 XE and it was made in Sept of 2000, and it did have the wedge mount, and the EC Mirror is definately worth it! the old channel mount can come off, but is a real pain in the @ss from what i've heard. they have to use a heat gun, and be very careful not to crack the windsheild.
