Ok I'm new to the Xterra and I have had mine for 4 days. I'm 5 foot 9 and I find the Xterra seats kind of uncomfortable. They do not reach to were my knee bends which causes a pressure point causing my leg to numb.

I called the dealer and now they want to talk trade. Trade...the friggin truck is 4 days old. I told them I was not happy with the seats and they see this as my problem now.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I have adjusted that seat every which way, but still I have trouble. I might get the Pathfinder which has long seats to support my leg.

Not quite sure what you mean.

Are you saying that the seats need to be longer to reach under your legs more?

I'm not quite understanding how you are sitting. I'm 6' and keep the back of the seat fairly straight up for posture and find the seats reach comfortably enough.

I understand it's uncomfortable for you, but just wondering if has more to do with your posture and how you're sitting. If your don't have good posture while sitting, now is a good time to start until you find a better solution. Of course, it could just be we have different trunks and kicks.

Perhaps some type of seat cushion would work. I find a soft pillow behind my back works great on long drives, but that probably wouldn't help you here.

Yes, the seats need to be longer to reach closer to my knee. I straight up(mostly) and sit all the way back against the seat back. Looks like 3-4 inches from the seat to my knee.

Short reply b/c of time...but actually my legs go numb too. I'll reply longer later.

Seems like you would be able to do something like replacing the bottom half of the seat with a longer version from a Nissan similiar car if you wanted to, or something like that.

Perhaps the Pathfinder version would fit the tracks for the Xterra?

I don't know personally, but a possible alternative to explore if necessary.

I don't have that problem and I am almost 6'0. I find that strange. Maybe there is a defect in your Xterra's seats. Have you tried riding in other xterras to see if they cause the same pain.

Actually, I just realized I am takling about my 04, so ignore my statements. Did the 04 Xterra have this problem for you? Or just the 05?

No, just the one I bought.

A friend of mine suggested putting something on the footrest pad to lift my left leg higher.

I will weigh all options. I don't want to loose $2K on a truck that is 4 days old.

Yeah I was speaking from the 00 viewpoint too btw. Is there much, if any difference between the years?

While this won't help your problem, I just wanted to say that I bought my wife the 2005 SE 4x4 model. I'm 5'-11", and found no problems with the seats, other than that in my opinion there is not enough side bolstering, so I was sliding a little side-to-side in the seat while turning.

Ok I have time now. In short stints at the wheel everything is fine in the seat. But I find that if I'm driving for a long time my legs start to get tingly and I start having to shift my weight around alot. Oh, I'm 5'9" too.

I have found a position that seems to work though, and I haven't had that issue this week. I also adjusted the lumbar support and that may have helped it a bit.

Also, I do know other manufactures that would try to fix the problem right away.

You know "If you don't like it, bring it back".

This dealer makes me feel like I'm weirdo or something.

I don't want to pay for and drive a truck that does not feel comfortable to me.

The way I see it, I've taken an 05 out twice and thinking about going back again before I purchase one. One dealer by me will let me take it for an hour or two and really get the feel for it. I almost think this is mandatory when buying a new vechicle, espeicially since $25K or so is quite a bit of money.

I definiitely want to avoid any numbness or being uncomfortable as I am 6'3".

You are a weirdo. The whole idea is to take a vehicle out and try it out and see what you like. If you were dead-set on an Xterra than you will have to find a solution yourself.

Nissan doesn't build a vehicle to suit everyone's physiology. You buy it, you're stuck with it. There is no hand-holding in the real world.

Fuzzy feelings come from trying 10 competitors and finding something you like.

I'm 6'2" and haven't had too many problems with the seat on drives up to two hours (only 800 miles, so long road trips yet). I have had trouble getting comfortable with the steering wheel though. I can't seem to find a really comfortable position off the armrests where I can sort of wedge my arm in like I did w/ my '02. It also seems to take more muscle to keep the truck going straight down the lane.

It would have been nice if Nissan had included a manual tilt/telescoping wheel ie. Altima. My Mazda-6 has one, and it is very nice in being able zone-in on a comfortable driving positions.

My 2005 S has tilt steering, no telescoping. I am pretty sure all 2005 models have tilt.

The 2005 Pathfinder and Xterra use the same seats. It's just the trim that's different.

I also found the front seats a little uncomfortable at first but found an obvious solution (that worked for me, anyway).

I just turned the back adjustment dial almost all the way up. I tried that when i first got the truck, but it didn't feel right, so I lowered it back down.
Finally, after months, I turned it back up again. It took about an hour to get use to it, and the discomfort went away. I think I resisted this setting at first because I liked the more "buckety" concept, but that was what was making my ass sore all along.

Yeah, I know, obvious...I imaging anyone who bothered to complain already fiddled with the adjusters till they were blue in the face... but just thought I'd mention it...

well,

I'm about 5'11" and I've had no problems so far; but I only have 300 miles on the truck. I'll be driving 1400 miles in the next few days, so I'll try to experiment with seating positions and we'll see.

The horizontal portion of the seat is short. My wife made the same comment that the seat didn't go the full length of the back of her thigh and she is only 5'3". I played with the adjustment of the seat and I find it comfortable enough and I drive a lot.

i am 6'6" and dont really have a problem. I feel that with my heel on the ground, the back of my leg towards my knee is off of the seat anyway. i am more concerned about the head room. i have the seat all the way back and leaned back to take advantage of the extra dead room in the back!

There are people who specialize in retrofitting auto seats with extra padding/foam in strategic areas for drivers with comfort problems. I didn't notice your location but, I know of one such person in Brewster, NY.

BTW, I can sympathize as I've had major back problems in other vehicles (including the '00 Xterra). No real problems in the '05 for me though (I'm 6'0").

Just took a 250 mile road trip last weekend. No problems....thought is was very comfortable compared to the 2000 X.

I'm in the same boat as zambonikane. At 6'7" one of the deciding factors in buying the 2005 X was the ample head, leg, and shoulder room. I've wanted an X for years, but until this year I could never fit. I drive a few hundred miles every weekend and I've always been quite comfortable. Admittedly the lower glove box tends to knock my shins when I'm riding in the passenger side, but otherwise I'm quite pleased.

I know what you mean. My left elbow falls in the door handle cut-out,and the centre consul is too far back to be used as an armrest on the right side whilst driving.
Also the solid spoke in the bottom centre of the sterring wheel does not help this situation.
