Sorry if this has been covered before, but I searched and couldn't find and definite answers. My question is this, isnt the Calimini 5" a little overkill? I thought that you couldn't run 35's with it(and still have room for articulation). What size tire are on the red 2005 Calmini Xterra shown with this lift? I was just thinking in keeping the COG low that if one was going to stay with 33's, why not a 3.5/4" system. I havent heard of any other suspension systems coming out for the Xterra though. Any idea on price of this Calmini system? I heard the price on the SLR system and laughed out loud. I'm hoping this one will at least be under a grand.

For $200 you can get the AC springs which will give you 2.5" of lift.

Or for about $300 you can get the Daystar Spacers and shackles which give you about 2" of lift.

If you go with the 2.5" suspension, then later on you can go with the body lift to clear larger tires (if you so wished).

See thats the thing, I dont particularly like body lifts. I would want my bumpers and sliders to be flush up with the body. I'll probably end up running the Trxus MT. Possibly the 34" if a 5" lift is my only choice for a complete lift kit. What size tires are on the Red Calmini Xterra again?

I want to say they were 35's.

I didn't think I'd like a body lift either. Even told folks they were crap! Then I got my X, and it already had a 3" BL on it. It's been rolled twice now, and the BL hasn't even budged. Bumpers line up (well, they did, they're still in the general area laugh ) and everything.

But, I do understand about the body lift issue. It may be different with the Next Gen, but I'd think they'd have brackets to get all the bumpers to go back to factory look.

The rumor is, even with a 5" lift it's still going to be hard to clear larger tires because of the small rear wheel wells. So, even with a 5" lift, you might still need a body lift to clear the tires. I think the only people at this point that can answer this question would be Calmini.

From Calmini back in Feb. "The tire on the X is a Toyo Open Country AT measuring 285/70/R17 (32.76 x 11.5). The rear fender well is the limiting factor as far as fitting a larger tire is concerned."

If fitting bigger tires is your concern, go with a 2.5 incher and a BL. The SLR price is really harsh, but I perfer performance over height. I dont see a SAS anytime soon for the 2nd gen X, so im going to mod the hell out of the IFS for now.

Calmini's 5incher should be cheaper than SLR's base price of $2300ish.

I heard with the 2.5' AC lift you could easily fit 285's which are 32.8...rounded up to 33's...how true is this? maybe 34's?

You can easily fit 33's without any lift. Even with the lift you are still not going to fit anything larger than 33's it has to do with the small rear wells.

Even with the size of the CV's and front shafts, I wouldn't want to be spinning 35's anyway. I'll still with the 33's.

I picked up 285 week 1 of owning my X back in February. Once the 5" Calmini lift comes out I do not plan on upgrading past the 285 (aka 33).

Patiently waiting...

Same here. I'm still patiently waiting on the 5inch SLR, and do not plan on increasing past 33s. I was talking it over with Cyclemut last night, and he does NOT recommend going above 33s on the 05.

I think the 33s being the max size discussion has been beaten to death... if one more person asks about 35s I am going to go nuts... why don't we just have someone just do it and blow the rear axle out. Really... historically a D44 will not handle 35s IF you actually wheel it.

33s are just fine!!! [ThumbsUp]

I measured before and after when I installed my Daystar lift and it is a 2 inch lift front and back.

SRPAGE

Did you go with longer shocks all around and what size did you go with for the DayStar lift?

I am runing the stock shocks at this point until I can get longer ones for the rear.

There would be no point in running longer shocks on the front as the upper control arm contacts the spring bucket and will not allow the front suspension to move any lower so the stock length shocks are it.

I wasnt saying I wanted to run 35's, I was just saying I thought that was too high for 33's. I'm from NC, My last vehicle was a rockcrawler with 35's. That was just overkill for the trails around here with the exception of Tellico which gave me a little trouble. That being said, the 44 can handle 35's just fine, I'm a crossover from the jeep world where people run 44's with 36's and have that "drive it like you stole it" attitude. I personally ran 35's with and 8.8 on my last Jeep, which is a Ford rear end, but neck and neck with a 44 as far as spline count, size, ring and pinion, ect. I cant vouch for the front end strength however.

fastdrmr - It might not be a bad idea to unlock the sticky tire info thread and post this info in Ian's orginal post.
