But not sure if I can find the right one. Pretty particular on options (would love the RF Stereo, side curtain bags, and locker). Not opposed to 05 if the 2000 rebate is still there. So what I really want to know is what everyone is paying for such vehicles? First dealership (and the closest) I talked to was all about MSRP. I'm more of an invoice kinda guy... Will be taking a hit on my return so every little bit counts!

Well what are you waiting for. I have an 05 OR without the RF and side airbags. I bought off the lot. I highly recommend it.

I'm thinking you should be able to get an '05 for invoice or less - probably less. The $2000 rebate is still in effect and, by this point, any dealer with 05's still on the lot is probably getting a dealer incentive or manufacturer holdback. You can check your local dealer's inventory by going to NissanUSA.com and then enter your zip code to search inventory. Find what you want, fax a couple dealers that have that model, and wait for the lowest quote.

Go to carsdirect.com and configure up the X you want. Print out their prices and use that as a target price when you get to the dealer. On the Xterra I found the carsdirect price at about 3% over invoice. Also go to Edmunds.com to find the invoice prices - print this out as well. I think on any new car (without rebates or incentives)aim for about 3-5% over invoice minus dealer holdback. Dealer holdback for Nissan is about 2.75%. Check all the dealers within about 2 hours from your house and I think you will find one that will meet, beat, our come within a couple hundred bucks of your price.

The rebates on 05 are still there, and I'm betting the dealers will let them go at or below their cost. Cost=Invoice minus dealer holdback minus factory to dealer incentives. You will have to pay the destination fee. Watch out for dealer "add-ons" like protective coatings, document fees, etc. These are almost always 99% profit for the dealer and 100% loss for you. Make absolutely positive you negotiate the "out the door cost" after all the dealer add-ons.

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and made the jump saturday night. We'll know monday if all the financing goes through (and it should). Problem was no off-road 4x4 was in the state, at least in the color we would have accepted. (no black, yellow, red or white)

So this week I should take delivery of a 2006 Off-road 4X4 Auto in Granite. Can't wait!

Did you buy it?

I bought my 05 2 days ago for $27,000 OTD

It was like $25 something after rebate before taxes, Doc fee et al.

I got the Side air bags but no Rockford ( I can get a better aftermarket stereo anyway) and its an Automatic.

I looked for one with both options and couldn't find one near me that was available (Vermont).

I hope this helps.
