Both of my factory keyless remotes broke after about a year each (it was not the bateries, it was the springs). Did you guys know that you can buy new Nissan remotes on ebay for $10? You can program them on your own and keep the dealer from raping you. Try it!

'Bout a week or so ago I was picking up my "X" from the service dept. and there was a woman at the cashier's counter buying one of those remotes. She was shocked at what they cost, and while I didn't catch the price the dealer was charging, her reaction told me it was a lots and lotsa $$$.

She's carrying on about how she really needs 2, but at that price she'll get by with one, blah, blah...

Now, I don't want to say it out loud at the counter (after all, the dealer still has the keys to my ride wink ) so I wait until she's walking out, stop her and fill her in on the EBay remotes. Shoulda seen the look on her face as she said "Thanks, I never, ever thought about looking for them there."

I'd imagine she's gotten that second one by now, unless Eric outbid her laugh

The local dealer charges $86 for a 2000 remote. I'm sure they could still hear me laughing a block away.

How do you program the remote?

You program your X, not the remote. Instructions here (note that the first step should be "close and lock all doors")

There hasn't been a time I've plugged *xterra into the ebay search field and not come up with at least 2 auctions for remotes...
