Well...if you believe conservatives, that would be the only choice...there certainly aren't any conservative capitalists professors out there...colleges are just a bunch of liberal bastions you know.

Actually, yes they are bastions of left wing ideology.

There are very few conservative teachers on the college level these days. At least tenured professors.

Obama graduated high school in 1979. Back in those days there were a few more teachers on the right or those who were non political. Columbia University has always been a bastion of left wingers even back in the days when your parents were young.

You are getting away from the point. Obama is a socialist. He has always been a socialist. He surrounds himself with socialists and hard left radicals (black racists who hate whites too).

None of you leftists seem to want to come to grips with that fact. You don't want to admit it. You all know he is leftist radical. That is why you support him. You just don't want to admit it.

Yes, then there are some people who support him for one reason.... HE IS BLACK.

As I said previously, if Obama was a white guy, he would have been eliminated from the race a while ago.

My bad. I thought a post had been deleted, but I found it. DBAX may or may not be a dick, but I'm not gonna call him out at this time. I'll still stand by my statement that this place went down the shitter after Ian left. smile

Wow.... The liberals and leftists are going apeshit today over the questions that were asked of Obama in the debate last night.

They are acting like ABC had no right to ask Obama any questions that weren't typical softball questions. The attacks against ABC are all over the internet leftosphere.

A few examples....

Link...

Link...

Link...

Too bad about them. For once a network did it's job in a candidate debate.

If Obama can't take the heat, he shouldn't be running for president. He did have a very bad performance last night. The worst of any debate. It proves the guy can't handle scrutiny or tough questions. If he can't handle Charlie Gibson or George Steph, he can't handle the job of president.

Madmen for McCain.

Has a ring to it, doesn't it, NYMM?

Though I hate it for everyone else, I have to admit taking perverse pleasure in knowing NYMM will have no choice but to vote for someone he despises. It's the worst of our political system in a nutshell - you end up supporting the lesser of two evils as opposed to someone you really believe in.

This may not be the worst shape America's been in during my 47-year lifetime, but it's damn close.

Because you're the only active moderator for this forum. I mistakenly thought that posts in this thread were being trimmed out by a mod.

Well said, Weasel. Well said.

I have travelled to South Asia this year for business and as it usually goes, we ended up in going out and doing a lot of talking with guys from all over the world. After a few drinks we stopped talking business and started socializing and at some point people turned to me and said, "What is going on in America?" So for hours I had to answer questions like:

- If the majority of Americans are against the war in Iraq, why are you there?

- America was built by pioneers and people who thought outside the box. Is it not time for you guys to have a revolt or something; otherwise, it looks like you really like the crap that is going on?

- How did Bush become the president? [It is said that people who speak English as a second language can spot mistakes in our president's speeches.]

- How can you possibly have a recession? We see all these big cars and houses that Americans own?

- Why would you not want to have universal coverage? Swiss watch industry considers American to be its bread and butter. It is not like you don't have money...

- Etc.

These guys wanted to understand what was going on because many of them have business ties to the U.S. in some way or another. Some of them considered moving to the U.S. for work. The older ones were fascinated by the fact that a country that once stood for freedom and democracy has been drifting in the opposite direction. Nobody from the group denied the fact that other countries in the world had their own problems and our debates touched various areas of the world. I guess my buddies were surprised by the fact that issues in the U.S. started to surface at an alarming rate during the past decade.

As for this thread, fuck it. Arguing on the Internet is like participating in Special Olympics: Even if you win, you're still retarded.

I do agree,

here's why

Socialism does work, it is not a negative thing, i.e Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany.
Everyone in this country should be given the same opportunity and be at the same level. IF we were, there would be no need for affirmative action, there would be no racism. A black man and a white man go in for the same job with the same credentials, the white man has the better chance of getting a job.

For health care, everyone by right of being in this country should be able to go see a doctor and not worry about if they can afford it.

OK so you are ok with paying for health insurance, what about the ones that cannot afford it? That is extremely Selfish thing to say. I seriously hope you sit down and think about what it means to live in this country and what it is about.

DR, You do realize that only a small percentage of the Arab and Persian population do not like us. Do you realize that there are extremists on all sides that hate everyone.
That same arab/persian populations want me dead because of who I am. It sucks but I cannot blame everyone for the actions of a few.

DR you need to seriously rethink all of this.
We are all human beings we live in the U.S because of the rights we have. if you know ur history, you know that when this country first started, it gave fulls rights to only WHITE MEN, mostly property owners. Little has changed. Do your research, figure it out. I just find it extremely stupid to hear someone literally make attacks because of someone's belief, especially if it's going to improve the lives of millions of people in this country, and that the 40 million people here in this country DO NOT HAVE THE LUXURY OF GOING TO SEE A DOCTOR as you do.

Jorge....

Desert Rat is NOT a racist. You are just calling him a racist in an attempt to stifle debate. It's a juvenile tactic and I think you can do better than that.

............................................

Regarding the others here in this thread who are making ridiculous claims that socialism is somehow a good thing, you ought to be ashamed of yourselves. If you think it is so wonderful, I'm sure you are more than welcome and have sufficient freedom to leave the US and enjoy socialism in the countries that practice it.

Socialism is unsustainable. It is also antithetical to the entire concept of the American experience. Socialism disregards and loathes the individual in favor of the collective. In favor of the state.

The prime reason for "American exceptionalism" has been because our society is based on the individual and not the collective. That is what has made America the most superior society to be developed by man so far.

People that advocate socialism hold a deep disdain for their fellow man. It has been correctly said that a person's love and admiration for the state and the collective power of the state is directly congruent to their contempt for their fellow man.

Socialism is the loss of freedom and liberty. Socialism is the road to tyranny. Socialism is the road to serfdom.

Americans aren't serfs.

Private healthcare is a fast growing industry in Canada now.... after many years of being outlawed.

Regarding these other countries that are incorporating socialism, they don't have many freedoms. Many of them no longer even have freedom of speech. You don't have freedom of speech in Finland or Sweden and many countries in Europe. If you don't adhere to the state dictates of accepted speech, you are prosecuted.

Sadly, that is even starting to now happen even in Canada.

Speaking of socialism...... back to the subject of Barack Obama.

His initials being B-O are very appropriate because this guy stinks to high heaven. Almost everything out of his mouth is a lie.

More on his anti-gun background......

He lies on the campaign trail that he supports the Second Amendment. But he has a very long and lengthy history of being anti-gun.

He served for years on the board of a left wing foundation called the Woods Fund (with his terrorist friend William Ayres) that funded anti-gun groups to the tune of millions of dollars. Many of those groups advocated total gun bans.

http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm?uuid=66551746-3048-5C12-00921D2BE9528C54

Quote:
* $2.5 million went to the Violence Policy Center, which has campaigned for a national ban on all handguns.
* $20,000 paid to publish Every Handgun Is Aimed at You: The Case for Banning Handguns
* $10,000 went to another gun-banning group, Handgun-Free America
Obama wouldn't serve on the board of a foundation if he didn't support the things they funded.

Obama has supported a national ban on all concealed carry.

OK, Jorge. Point out one thing I've said that makes me a racist and I'll give in to your unfounded comments. Magic Negro comments don't count since that was explained to you several times and your little brain still can't wrap around the concept. That was a phrase coined by BLACK supporters of Barack Obama, and someone else provided you the wikipedia link explaining the origins of the term. Fuck, you're stupid.

Yasha, I don't need to rethink anything. Socialism sucks and if you don't like it here, go back to Russia. Seriously. Freedom means just that. It's the freedom to have as little government in your life as possible. It's the freedom to choose. It's the freedom to make your own decisions and be responsible for yourself.

It does not mean pay for everyone else. If you don't like your economic situation, CHANGE IT. Go to school. Work harder. Change careers. No one makes anyone be a dumbass that works at Burger King their whole lives. Catastrophic health coverage isn't terribly expensive and does cover you if something major happens to you medically. Many of the same people who cry about not having health coverage are driving new cars, living in nice homes, etc. You have to live within your means and determine what's important to you. Many who say they can't afford it just aren't willing to give up anything to pay for it. They'd prefer I do that for them. Fuck that.

Nope. I don't need to rethink anything. Please don't try to change this country into a socialist shit hole with a 55% income tax rate, like your shining examples of Scandinavian countries have. I prefer to keep what I earn and make my own choices.

never said it didn't have its share of problems. But it works in Finland. Yes, there are some private options in Finland...but they are a very small percentage of the system.

Nobody in Finland pays tuition. That goes from beginning to end - including doctorate work.
