Hey Guys and gals [Wave]

I have one of the non-glare/compass/temperture rear-view mirrors. When I get into the X in the morning, the temp reads something like 98 Deg. F.
[Huh?] ; it does change up and down as i drive; then at night it goes to something like 96 deg.

now, I know we are having some heat right now out here, but come-on...

Where is the actual device that reads the temp? First I thought it was inside, but that made no sense; second I thought it might be on the opposite side of the mirror, but the window temp can vary, not giving you a true temp.

Anyone have a clue where this thing is? I was just wondering... and to see if someone has tried to move it somewhere else, to get a better reading of a dry temp.

In the front, near the grille...

If the truck has been sitting in the sun, or with a hot engine - the temperature might be inaccurate. After driving around a short spell though, it should be right on.

Perhaps the sensor fell from its location and is too close to something?

Funny, I was thinking about this today while sitting at the 7-11 waiting for the kids.
A/C on high, in park at an idle, it went up to 118deg.
Soon as I started moving it dropped to 96, which is about what the outside temp was.

you can check out the installation instructions on www.xterraparts.com

basically it is on the same support bracket as the horn - in front of the grill. at least that is what it says, i haven't looked for mine yet but i have also thought about moving it. it said it was 138 here the other day while i was parked. like borderphreak said, once you drive around a bit, it stabilizes and gives a pretty accurate temp reading. there must be a better place to mount it though, a buddy of mine has a temp display in his minivan that doesn't vary nearly as much - maybe i will try to see where his is mounted. let us know if you do mount it, where, and what happened. good luck.
