I mean, it's April, I live in Texas and it friggin' snowed here today.

I was laying by the pool earlier this week in 85 degree weather. Now I'm running the heater as it's colder now than it was in December.

So ghey.

I love the cold. I'll embrace it as long as I can. In the 30's tonight. Back to the 80's on Monday.

Sorry you are sad though. wink

yea and having to work outside in this shit really sucks. Tuesday was 80 and yesterday didn't even hit 40. went from jeans and a t-shirt to insulated overalls and a heavy carhartt jacket. it snowed Thursday through today so far. and the wind is gusting pretty hard, so that just makes it worse.

There is no Global warming, it is all a big fraud. The weather changes are all thanks to God....our children can live in Florida for 100's of years to come. Hurray for Coalburning...

You can back your view with data of course.

It seems clear that global warming is occurring. The cause(s) and the use of climate change as a political agenda are what is at issue.

Mowing down the rainforests in tropical areas probably has more to do with increased greenhouse gases than our cars do. Americans might have a guilty conscience on this, but things happening in places like Brazil are what's impacting nature's ability to consume CO2 and produce more oxygen.

Discuss.

The problem is that America is held to a higher standard. We are made to think that all the world's problems are our fault. Mexico, and third world countries are allowed to do business the way that we did 100 years ago to help their economies. If they were forced to observe our pollution standards they would be going broke and shipping their jobs overseas.

I heard on the radio yesterday that the gametime temp for the Reds game was 30 degrees - colder than any kickoff time temp for a home Bengals game all year.

*sigh*

I hate this cold weather now. I like winter and I like snow but I like it in December, not April. I just looked at the local forecase and all the way thru April 17th we're not even gonna hit 50 degrees.

And to think, it was nearly 80 the other day, WTF.

What a crock. This is the latest scam by the socialists/communists to kill the free market. Al Gore is proof that it is a scam. It is ok for big Al to polute as long as he pays someone else not to.

Actually, I believe algae in the oceans consumes several times more CO2 than all the land based plant-life combined, but I don't feel like googling for a citation right now...

My roommate - who is into this kind of thing - said that that is true... that warming doesn't necessarily mean noticeably warmer temps (because we're only talking about a degree or three) - but it does mean weirder weather as patterns and systems change

I'll assume you were joking about the Al Gore thing - as the fact of global warming (and the accepted 90% likelihood that humans are a significant contributor to it) is pretty overwhelmingly accepted now

In the pre 1400s is was overwhelmingly accepted that the world was flat, how did that turn out?

Humans are so insignificant in the ever changing global climate. Human activity, including breathing accounts for about 4% of these so called greenhouse gasses.

The UN report on "global warming" is also being revised because it was based on junk propoganda science and facts point to natural climate cycles, but the mainstream liberal media has shoved that fact under the carpet.

The majority of scientist who endorse global warming, get their funding from intitutes that promote this scam. They want to keep their jobs, so they say humans are at fault.

Actually, that isn't true either. It was generally known and accepted that the earth was a sphere pre-Columbus. Greeks calculated the circumference of the earth quite accurately. The idea that most people believed the earth was flat comes quite possibly from the same fellow who wrote The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Any-hooo... The idea that there is some sort of consensus on global warming is just as inaccurate. Some people want you to believe the argument is over, but that's not the case. There are plenty of rational creditable dissenters throughout the ranks of climate science and meteorology.

The facts are we have around 40-some years of real empirical data on the earth's climate. Having worked with that data, it's generous to call it quality as the amount of errors included is very high, and the worldwide records aren't as extensive as the US records. There are some records that go back to the 1800's but that data is very inaccurate, sporadic, full of colloquialisms and is not acceptable for any sort of scientific use. Anything beyond this comes from dendrochronology (tree cores), or geologic sources which are not an accurate science. Studying tree cores can give you some general ideas on what the climate may have been like, but the data is more like it was a good year, bad year, normal year than anything you can use to be certain about climate.

We just don't have a good picture of the worldwide climate for the past century, let alone going back millennia.

Any science that refuses to acknowledge it's detractors and willingly accept and take seriously challenges is a junk science. The goal in any science should not be to simply be right, but to find the correct answer. If we believe there is a consensus, when there are too many questions and not enough supporting evidence we aren't going to get the right answers.

It's a politicized science which is being sanitized of all dissent to make it more appropriate for public consumption. When you hear things like '...90% sure that global warming is caused by human activity' It should be obvious that we're getting more of a press release than scientific thesis. 90% sure sounds empirical, but there's no data behind it.

I personally love the statement that global warming doesn't necessarily mean warming, but weirder weather. That's kinda ambiguous, doncha think? Weather is weird, has always been, and always will be.

The larger problem than whether or not global warming is either happening or not, caused by humans, our sun, allah, or by those delicious marshmallow peeps is, If our climate does change, how do we deal with it. That question doesn't seem to be being addressed.

As Humans are just a speck in time, relative to the age of the Planet and if we can make Global Warming, we can make Global Cooling.

I'll leave it in Mother Nature's hands to set things straight and keep the balance.

No Model will ever be accurate. Period. I don't care how many people agree or disagree, it's the Proof that counts. Proof doesn't start where we started taking records either.

I'm more concerned with killer asteroids, etc. They are truly unpredictable and Spaceweather.com says there are 855 Potentially Hazardous Asteroids that could kill us, what about the one's we don't know about?

For now, I'll keep treading lightly and burning as much fossil fuels as I need. Vote for Politicians that aren't sucked into the Global Madness and hopefully we'll stay stronger than China who'll surpass our "Carbon" output next year.

Warming is reality. Disappearance of polar ice caps and glaciers are evidence of this. Whether or not this is human caused or not is the debate.

While the algae comment is heard and acknowledged, still, the gratuitious extermination of plant life in rain forests certainly isn't helping.

The Southwest is going into year 12 of the worst drought in recorded history. Colorado River flows are 50% of normal. That drying, warming trend is being noticed in this part of the country. Oddly, I've also seen increased snow and inclement weather in the north east as part of this cycle.

Like I said...the quesiton is whether or not man has caused this scenario, and while everyone has a theory, I don't think it can be proven definitively either way.

That's basically right on. As far as I can tell most mainstream scientists seem to think humans are a factor in global warming, but obviously this is still a point of some contention. Personally I don't know enough about the issue to be confident one way or the other, although from a common sense standpoint it certainly seems likely that we are influencing the earth's temperature.

If the climate is changing, it is doing so naturally.

The climate has always been changing throughout earth's history. It's always been changing even during mankind's history.

A lot of the information regarding polar ice cap melting is presented in a false light. While some areas may seem to be melting, other areas of the ice caps are thickening.

Mankind has nothing to do with any changes the climate may be experiencing. If it is experiencing any changes at all.

The public is being brainwashed into thinking man is responsible because of political reasons. None of those political reasons are good either. The motivations are rotten and even evil at their core.

A thousand years ago the Vikings had a climate that allowed them to farm in Greenland and even make crossings to North America.

Climate is not something that remains static forever.

What a crock.
You think "global warming" means it's going to be hot everywhere all the time? That's a common misunderstanding. Climate (long-term patterns) and weather (current conditions at a specific location) are two different things. As the climate changes, weather patterns change also, so in essence the climate is "cause" and weather is "effect."

As other posters have written, global warming is occurring, and as I said in my earlier post, the issue is whether man is responsible and the use of warming as a political agenda.

I agree completely with those who say a double-standard exists for the U.S. vs. other countries. When I visited Bangkok, the air was so foul that the traffic cops on the corner wore surgical masks. [Freak]

Just thought about this article that I read a while back. Researchers Question Validity of a \'Global Temperature\'

The debate is not over that the Planet is Warming or Cooling, hence the debate cannot really intellectually start about what is causing either.

Quote:
..."Average without meaning

"It is impossible to talk about a single temperature for something as complicated as the climate of Earth", Bjarne Andresen says, an an expert of thermodynamics. "A temperature can be defined only for a homogeneous system. Furthermore, the climate is not governed by a single temperature. Rather, differences of temperatures drive the processes and create the storms, sea currents, thunder, etc. which make up the climate".

He explains that while it is possible to treat temperature statistically locally, it is meaningless to talk about a a global temperature for Earth. The Globe consists of a huge number of components which one cannot just add up and average. That would correspond to calculating the average phone number in the phone book. That is meaningless. Or talking about economics, it does make sense to compare the currency exchange rate of two countries, whereas there is no point in talking about an average 'global exchange rate'.
Man has not been around long enough to tell the difference between real cooling or heating. Sure evidence of either is available, but if you read between the lines they don't know for sure or they'd be saying they know for sure and not %90 sure, etc.

While there is evidence that the planet is warming, ever so slightly (ice core samples for example), I agree the cause is what is in question.

Another tidbit they don't tell you is that if you look at global temperatures historically, the planet warms and cools in roughly 100-thousand year cycles. We are currently on a warming trend, just recovering from a "little ice age" that started at the end of the Midievel period (1300-1400AD). ( data source )

What's interesting here and is up for debate is the RATE of warming during the current period. While some will argue that the rate is beyond what should be expected due to man's interference, the question then becomes is the rate just indicative of better analysis of the data? So the rate is also in question.

What bothers me even more about this whole question is the very idea that humans are big enough to mess with Gaia. That is absurd and very arrogant and quite frankly, as stated, we're a mere virus that can (and may be someday) overcome by Gaia.
