Since there has been some confusion about ARBs fitting the X with/without grinding modifications, here is what ARB said to me in an email:

There has been some confusion about ARBs fitting the Xterra properly or not... Here is what ARB said to me in an email:Randy,
there has been some confusion regarding the Xterra and the fitting of
Bullbars. The first bars we brought into the states were designed to fit the
Australian Navarra pick up truck. These bars did require modifications of
both the returns and the mounting holes as the fitment was not exact to the
Xterra. Later bars (pt# 3438070) were factory built with revised mounting
holes and returns. Unfortunately, we believe there were a number of the
early bars (Navarra) that were sold as Xterra bars by dealers who did not
understand the difference. Customers then had fitment problems mounting
these bars when they did not think they would. The current bars do not seem
to cause any drama during installation.

As to the weight of the bars. The 3438070 weighs about 80lbs without a
winch installed. This extra weight can be compensated for easily by
adjusting the torsion bars a bit. This holds true with a winch installed as
well. If you have further questions you are welcome to contact me.

Good info - that certainly clears up the early Xterra-specific issues. Thanks!

I notice that the ARB weighs 80 pounds, and I thought this was discussed somewhere before, but I spaced it... How much does the X bumper weigh that it replaces?

Not much, easily lifted with one hand, even by puny ol' me. Call it 30 pounds...

Good info except I believe it is wrong. Synchro and I installed the first "Xterra specific" bars on our trucks, and when he went to pick them up the shop (4x4 Connection) had a Navarra bar lying next to the new X ones--and there were differences, including a welded reinforcement around the bolt holes.

He and I both have bars that required some drilling...what I think ARB means to say is they screwed up the first time they made the "X-specific" bar, but have since corrected the problem. Kind of lame to blame it on the dealers, though, since my install instructions did say the bar was for the "1997 and on Nissan Xterra."

Yeah, that struck me as pretty sketchy as well. Oh well, it's on there and I'm happy w/ it, and it now clears my tires, so it's a keeper!
