using my trusty radio shack sound meter, i took some before and after sound 'measurements' to see how much more noise the k&n air intake would make.

before installing: cruising at 65 mph yielded between 90 and 92 decibels on average. most of it was tire and wind noise, i imagine...since i was just cruising.

when accelerating from 35 up to 65 i was bouncing between 92 and 94 decibels. that was maxing out at around 3500 rpm.

accelerating to pass from 65 to 75 mph yielded the same results. tire and wind noise didn't increase much apparently.

now...after installing the fipk:

about 2 decibels higher on average while accelerating. it climbed a bit higher than that when i really mashed down. i accelerated straight to 75 mph from around 35 or so but didn't go above 3500 rpm or so. i did that just to hear the added 'growl'.

cruising decibels remained the same.

btw, i had the meter set to slow response and 'c' weighting.

my findings: fipk makes a bit more noise....but man does it sound good!!

now, to decide on a weld-in muffler....

cranky.
