OK, so I need to take the contact pads off of the tubes of the roof rack. It looks like it has a security torx head on it. Anybody know what size of torx it is?

Thanks
Mike

All of the Torx screws on the outside of the rack bars are T-30. The screws that hold the boots to the bars are on the inside of the boot and they are a smaller size. I have a Torx screwdriver that fits them but it doesn't say what size it is on it and I can't remember. Hope this helps.

Is the small one a security torx?

Yes it is.

What I did was I took it down to Oreilly's and the guy at the counter let me take a bunch of torx screwdrivers outside and see which one fit.

But if your just removing the plastic pads you shouldn't need the smaller one. They just snap on to the bottom of the boot.

And just out of curiosity, why are you removing the contact pads?

Oh and I almost forgot all Xterra's come with a T-30 Torx screwdriver in the back under the cargo area carpet for adjusting the roof rack crossbars.

I'm running some cables up the body of the tube to right next to the roof basket.

OK, for the future searchers out there:

The screew is not a security torx, it is a regular T-20.

I was thinking that since I don't recall needing anything other than 2 Torx drivers to remove my rack.

Don't worry you're not Bob. That bastard has never touched a tool on his show.

hmm learned something new! I thought the torx tool under the rear mat worked on all the screws on the roofrack. Course I have never atempted to seperate the rack from the body.
