I've read the post about changing the knob, but haven't found what I am looking for. I've been trying, but I can't get the damn thing off, even with vice grip-type pliers. Any suggestions?

Try the search feature if you haven't, this has been covered. Use "knob" for the search term, and make sure you switch from "subject only" to "entire message" to be sure.

A lot of elbow grease, vice grips, and a towel worked for me. Here's proof...

Good Luck and let us know how you fare...

I searched before my post, but that didn't help much. I'm just afraid that if I put too much elbow grease into, I'll screw something up. I don't want to end up tearing the whole shifter out because I yanked it too hard(not that I'm that strong). I shall go try again.

Update. The deed is done.

After trying and trying and trying to get the knob off using nearly all the tools I possess, I took a knife to it. There sure is a lot of rubber to cut through. When I finally got down to the knob "core," I managed to rip the knob off. The core was left on, and I finally got that wrenched off. Needless to say, this was a b!+C# to do. The bleeding has started to stop, and tomorrow I'm going to be looking for a new shifter knob. The one I was going to put on doesn't look quite right, but it'll do for tonight.

FWIW, cutting was the only method that worked for me. The nissan gorilla(tm) tightened both the gear and tc knobs on my X.

In case it helps, the thread is 10mm x 1.25 - metric fine pitch. I made my own shift and tc knobs and I'm working on some other upgrades to that area too.

dave and Xtoy - no circus tent

dido.. had to cut mine off too... I even went to the dealer to ask them how the knob was put on ( before this board existed ).. they only asked why.. and that I shouldn't..

If you want a comfortable knob..IMO.. I installed one with a tiltable head ( momo and a few others make them ) .. gives a nice shape and adjustable comfort and it ends up lowering the height of the shift just a tad.
