Didn't he say all that before Florida was selected to go to the National Championship? I wonder if he has changed his tone, and if it was just a "threat" of what he would do if florida was not selected. I seem to remember that most analysts during the time that they were speaking out were suppporting an OSU vs. Mich rematch.

He told The Gainesville Sun he already has discussed playoff ideas with Florida State president T.K. Wetherell, who has also recently pledged support.

And he keeps promising to talk to many others, even after his Gators navigated the BCS water to get into the title game. That, he swears, isn't the point. The problem remains.

He has vowed to take the issue up with his fellow SEC presidents at their annual spring meeting. Machen holds more cards than perhaps even he knows. He thinks this will take a long time, and perhaps it will because there still is a lot of status-quo money that will push back.

But if Machen can convince his fellow SEC presidents, if he can present viable revenue options, if he can convince them to send the championship system back under central NCAA control (and out of the hands of conference commissioners), if he can get the SEC to say it will opt out of the BCS when the current television contracts expire after the 2009 season, then the system immediately will crumble.

It's that simple. College football can't have a viable championship system without the SEC.

I remember talking with Johnny about this years ago. I agree that Oregon should have been there. Miami would have won, hands down, no question about it, but it would have been nice to see a team that actually presented my boys with a challenge.

Nobody would have beaten Miami that year.

I still say playoff.

Miami was scary good that year, and I guess finishing number 2 in the country isn't too shabby for a team like Oregon. But teams like us don't often get title shots and damn I wish we could have had a crack at your boys. That team could score on anybody so we would have at least had a shot.

Not true. Look at the top 8 in BCS standings this year. 2 teams have 2 losses, LSU & USC.

I think you missed the point. Might want to go back and look at the example he gave. If you have a 2 loss team and an undefeated team in the same conference, the 2 loss team will make the playoffs.

Looks like the CARDS are going to the Orange Bowl. Shame we have to play the weakest BCS team (Wake Forest), but hey, I'll take a win!
Yeah, that's just what Wake is thinking - UL expects a win.

Here's how I see it playing out...

UL gets down to Miami a week before the bowl game, eight starters go out looking for a good time and end up getting hooked on crack. Two other starters get thrown out of a bar for being underage, and Petrino ends up taking the time in Florida to interview for the Miami job.

Wake goes down to Miami a week before the bowl game, studies the competition - educates themselves on the UL offensive scheme and then tears them a new one.

Riley Skinner is just as accurate and make just as good decisions with the ball as Brohm. UL hasn't played anybody like Wake this season. Oh, wait...except for Rutgers.

I'll be so glad to see this game go down to the wire and watch Wake's linebackers feed on Brohm while he's in the pocket wetting himself.

The only thing I hate more than UL is an overconfident UL fan. Dick.

Don't hate on Louisville - they've got some really big wins over the years.

Their squeaker over Boise State a couple of years ago was epic.

Being a Tech fan is definitely taking years off my life. eek [ThumbsUp]

Leach is a genius. Beating a crappy Minnesota team hardly gets headlines. Staging the biggest comeback in bowl history... major headlines! laugh

Hopefully this will help turn around our crappy recruiting class.
