Hey guys,

I used to post on here back in the day before the big crash.

I have a 2002 SE S/C with about 73000 miles on it. Bought the car used in 2005 with about 32600 miles on it.

Anywho, I have done zero preventative maintenance to my xterra other than oil changes of course. I was thinking about getting a check up done at a dealership. I also realize my car is getting up there in miles. So I was wondering how religiously should I be sticking to the scheduled maintenance book?

Religions are funny. Everyone interprets them their own way.

That being said, two things. First, that's not that many miles. There are those who have topped 200k. Second, there's a reason they call it "Scheduled" maintenance. But even at that there are some things that make sense and others that don't. And situations are different. Do what you think you need.


Custom fuse panels for electrical mods
Custom backup solution mod (lights/camera/monitor)
Custom switched power outlets (8+ total)
Lots-o-Lights (6 driving lights, 10 total)

If it is broken, or leaking, or loose,,, fix it as needed.

standard things like belts, hoses, wires, plugs, fluids, filters.

While you might not have that many miles, you do have a few years on some of the componants.

Thanks for getting back to me guys.

I guess I don't really feel like I need anything to be done, just more into preventative maintenance. I know it's not that many miles for an 02 but she is 8 years old.

I'll probably wait another 20,000 miles or so until I change the timing belt. I have been doing a lot of highway miles lately and was curious if there is anything I should keep my eye on so I don't get stranded on the side of the road.

I think I remember the engine is vulnerable to a cracked manifold? Is this correct? What are the symptoms of this? Leaking?

yes to the manifold, I bought mine at around 84k miles, it was cracked already by then. symptoms? you'll hear it, pop the hood with it running and listen.

Doing a lot of highway miles, and you dont want to get stranded on the side of the road,....... yet you still want to wait another 20k miles on the belts? yes, your miles are low, but I think the time frame for changing it was 105k OR 7 years. If it were me, I would rather change it now and know its going to be good for the next 7 years instead of taking the chance, just my 2 cents though.. .. .. ..
