Just above the strut on the drivers side in the engine bay there is a hose that ends at a piece of metal tubing that make about a 90 degree turn. After the bend there is no hose, the tube is just open. I've looked around and I can't find where something would connect. Is there supposed to be a hose there or is it ok like it is.

Without seeing it, I'd take a wild guess and say it is the front differential's vent hose. That's assuming you have a 4X4.
