Does anyone have a link to an official Nissan explanation of maintenance intervals? I've read a lot about a 105k mile interval on the timing belt, but I can't find such an official statement from Nissan. Back in the day, these were always changed at 60K (early 90's Toyota). The local dealership here suggested 60K. I'm reading how a lot of people are suggesting they are breaking timing belts before they reach this 105k number too.

It seems to me that if Nissan suggested 105k miles on this belt, they would actually expect it to run to 125k to actually be safe, especially on an "interference" engine.

Any thoughts?

Oh, and the reason I ask is that I just had a water pump fail after 40k miles. It was made by GMB North America,l originally I think it may have been supplied by Advanced Auto Parts. I didn't do it the first time, a mechanic did it prior to my purchase of the vehicle.

This time I purchased a water pump made by Nissan Pump Manufacturing. Napa carries it. It's the only model they have that is made in Japan. Even the Nissan OEM pump is made in Mexico these days.

I don't have the link, but I recall 106,000 kilometers being the ceiling for 2002 Xterra timing belts...I changed mine at ~122,000 kilometers; it still looked good. I changed all the belts at that time, plus the tension pulley, water pump, thermostat, and anti-freeze.

105,000 kilometers is still only 65,000 miles.
