With such a large diameter, most bungee hooks don't fit the X's roof rack. I remember seeing some pics of someone who had some that did, but I forget who it was. If anyone can help me out with where to get them or websites to check out, that would be great. Thanks.

Yeah, that's what I have been doing, but you lose some good length from the bungee and it's not as secure as it would be if the hook was actually around the rack.

You can make some tie downs with rope and a decent knowledge of knots.

You can take a 18" length 3/8" line an put bowline's on each end. Then loop it over the rack and put the bungee in both loops.

Or you can make something more permanent using a hitch to secure it to the rail and put a bowline on the free end.

Ashley's Book of knot's has a variation of the Clove hitch where the end is tucked under the first loop outside the crossed section, but I can't remember the name. It's definately not the constrictor knot, but is similar. The constrictor's final tuck goes under the first loop AND the crossing section. The Clove hitch won't nip well enough unless you use coarse line.

I'll look the name up tonight if you are interested.

There's an outlet center here with a surplus tool shop. They had "super bunjees" that were 4' to 8' in length with super hooks on them!! I'll check back and see if they still have them. They were black, and at least double the standard bunjee thickness. Completely cool!!

Also, www.superiorbungee.com will custom build any bugee you want, from a tiny "attach the cell phone to your belt" bungee, to the mammoth "look out, I'm jumping..." sizes.

If we get a bunch of guys together, it would be cheap! Sort of like a group buy thing. i'm in... What say we build a "bungee group" of two long and two short sizes that are "roof rack" compatible. a set of 4 that's double thick with big ol hooks. Who'd want a set?

why not use some pipe loops. like the ones the they use to hold PVC pipes up to trusses in your house? then you could slide the hooks around as you needed the bungees in different spots.

PNUTMNM - I'm in, somewhat dependant on cost. Maybe you should repost this as a new topic to a better response.
