Is there any company(i.e ARB or Trac tech) that make a locking rear differential for a Xterra?

Yes, ARB makes one for the front and back.
Why do ask (I just noticed that you drive a 1995 Land Rover Discovery as your model of Xterra)???

Thanks for the info. I drive a Disco, my brother is looking into an Xterra. We plan to hit the trials with our rigs.

Sorry...I forgot to ask. Would I have to up-grade the rear axle to handle the stress of a locking differential, if so, who makes a heavy-duty rear axle for the Xterra? Or is the stock one thick enough?

Cool, I'd like to hear if he can keep up with you. I was very supprised to see what my Xterra was capable of when it was stock!

Most fokes that have the lockers are running stock rear ends, but you may want to hear from them.

I am running an ARB in the stock rear axle and it's great! The stock axle is just a shade smaller than a DANA 44 so it's pretty beefy. No problems to report and I have had it in since early March.

Spencer Low Racing is not the only place to get them. 4x4parts.com has them as well as others. I imagine that any ARB reseller could get it for you as well. Currently the only company who is selling the ARB for the front diff is 4x4parts.com, as it is slightly modified.

I can tell you for a fact that the stock Nissan rearend is TOUGH! My installer on my air locker was shocked at the size of the rearend and axles in my Xterra. Your rearend can take it with little problem. In fact, you will toughen it further by adding the air locker. When you see how pathetic the LSD clutch plates are, you will understand why you hate it so much. It's one of the wimpiest LSD rearends I have ever seen.

I have front and rear ARB lockers. Just had the front locker on one trail run but the combination is AMAZING..
My installer was also impressed with the size of the Xterra differentials. He said the front was a little under 8".
By the way, ARB warranties the A/C modified front locker.

The LSD is nearly useless, the % of torque it transfers is puny, and it is reluctant to even engage in the first place. I've gotten some benefit from it, but it really could be about 25% tighter to be of real use.

"Can you post the part # etc for both lockers? I will definately get this combo ASAP! I need all the ordering info or a # to call. Trying to figure out what to order from the websites is very confusing for me. Thanks!" First, find an ARB installer. Order the rear locker (and compressor?) from him. From memory the number is RD24. The front locker is from Automotive Customizers http://www.4x4parts.com/ The rear locker, compressor, front locker and installation is going to be in the neighborhood of $2200.00

ARB lockers are tough lockers. They have a 4 pinion style carrior which is much stronger than the stock one. I also like the fact that you have control of it, unlike the Detroit which is just horrible(DANGEROUS) for on-road use. The down side is that the ARBs only last for 3-4 years before they just stop working. Detroits last forever. I have had several problems with my ARB locker on my LR(when it works...it works!), but it seems like you guys have not had any problems with yours, have you? I know of a lot of people that have had problems with their ARB's.
