#7118 - 23/01/05 11:53 PM Most expensive repair?

My wife drives a 2002 X that we bought new and has 50,000 miles on it and so far the most expensive thing I have had to do to it (other then the scheduled maintenance check ups) was $122.00 for front brakes. I bought ceramic brake pads and had a friend at Sears install them. (I know brake pads are easy to install but he gets a commision, so i decided to have him do it)I am pretty impressed with the truck, considering we drove from Jacksonville,Fl to Sacramento,Ca towing a 1993 Chevy S-10 behind it. How about ya'll, what have you had to do to your truck?

130,000 kms .. front brakes (done myself) and regular fluid maintenance. Unreal considering the shit-kicking I give this thing sometimes. laugh

Mmmm...like a grand or so for a new steering box and labor...my own fault though...salt water damage--salt water ate away at a seal and got in the steering box...not good....

I had my steering box go out on my 2003 2wd @ 17000 miles, it was covered under warranty but would have been around 1500 buck from the dealer to replace.

Most expensive, huh? Let's see, excluding battery, tires and stuff you expect to replace, I'd say mine was the power window/door luck button cluster from the driver's door armrest.

As I remember, including labor, it was maybe $120. The dealer called to let me know it was ready before I even got back to work after dropping it off.

Both Manifolds, non-Nissan warranty covered the Manifolds themselves (After some argument) but did not cover the broken studs. Paid $180 towards what would have been an $800 job.

As for the Xterra, Rear Main Seal - $50 deductible. laugh

Think Most on my 2001 was $250 for the AC repair.

Everything on my 2003 has been covered but has cost the dealer quite a bit!

I think Carlton and his new engine have us all beat with the excepting of a few who have had collisions.

You name it...aside from the recalls, I replaced the roof rack ($300), ac hoses ($565) windshield wiper motor ($270) and most recently, the intake manifold gasket, knock sensor, and some other sensor the coolant leaked onto ($1168). The last repair (the intake gasket) occurred with 61,000
miles - one thousand miles outside my power train warranty. Try getting a call back from Nissan?
Or the dealership? You know, I truly love the truck...but it's getting ridiculous!

Lets see,

Replaced defective front bumper, it couldn't hold a winch...

Replaced defective step rails, couldn't support truck weight when hi-lifted...

Replaced defective UCA's, couldn't align with 3" lift...

Replaced defective shocks, they were too short...

Replaced defective body mount pucks, 2" too thin...

Replaced defective rear shackles, they were 1.5" too short....

Replaced extra leaves in rear suspension, there weren't any extras leaves from the factory...

Replaced defective skid plates, the factory accidentally made them from tin foil...

Replaced defective steering components, the factory one was missing strength to control the correct tires...

Replaced defective tires, the factory ones were way smaller than the correct 33x12.5 sized tires...

Replaced defective paint, the factory forgot to add the pine stripes...

And so forth...this rig has been nothing but trouble!

laugh

Let's see i've had work done but nothing out of my pocket. Bought the truck('01) with 110,000kms and it had extended warranty till 2006/160,000kms so far ive had the block heater/steering box/wax pot (leaking antifreeze controls high idle when cold) i would have hated this truck if i had to pay for these problems. mad But i don't smile

122,228 miles as of today...except for wear & tear, I had the fuel sending unit replaced at 68K, about 2 years ago, before the recall. That's all folks!

Steering Gear box- P&L- $750
Firestone Destination Mts (2nd set) - $400
Motor Mount(s) w/ installs- - $300
Air intake Manifold(s)- - $120

PS- I could repair some other things but haven't looked for #s and $s. My fan is ground down at the end of the blades where it got into the Fan Shroud... I can use a new Fan Shroud also laugh . And the passenger side rocker panel can use some fixin' too(long story). On that note however, I'll be having sliders fabbed again too. Also, I've got cracks in my LCAs at the bottoms of the shock mounts eek Yee-hah. Yep, there's gonna' be some serious welding going on somewhere in my near future for sure.

Fronterra -- After reading the owners manual and seeing that I'm cleared for takeoff, I wanted to know if you had trouble when you towed your chevy with the X. I'm getting ready to move to Louisiana from Cape Cod Mass and I want to tow a '95 Dakota which weighs about 3000 lbs. Did you use the full car carrier type of tow or the dolly?
Thanks in advance.
Ed

Since you are moving from Louisiana to Cape Cod, mountains won't be to much of and issue depending which way you go. When I went through the Cumberland mountains in Tennessee, I had to unhook the S-10 because the tranny on my X was heating up and spitting out fluid, luckily no damage to the tranny, I had it checked in Nashville. I rehooked up outside of Nashville, and was good to go until I got to Wyoming, and got near the Rockies. I unhooked again in Wyoming and we drove 2 vehicles into Cali. I had the S-10 on a 2 wheel dolly. A full car carrier is too heavy in my opinion. So on the flat land and small hills, no problem. I was able to do 70 mph with not much problem. Mountains will definately challenge you and you need to unhook. My wife is from Rayville, La, where are you moving from? Good luck on your trip, keep me updated. [ThumbsUp]

We are going to Morgan City (or near there). We're taking I-95 to Jacksonville then I-10 west so I don't think mountains will be a problem. Thanks for all of the information.
